Flying A Ranch

The Flying A Ranch in Bandera Texas is currently looking for an eager dependable person to join our 4 wildlife biologists and guides for the fall hunting season. The position we are filling is hunting guide/intern. We typically hire college students or recent graduates that are studying wildlife/range or a related field. However, we will entertain applicants not in this field if they love hunting and may want to become a hunting guide. The typical applicant is 21-29 years of age. The ranch is 9,300 acres in the Texas hill country with 5,000 acres devoted to strict white-tailed deer management and hunting. The remainder of the ranch is focused on exotic ungulate hunting and management composed of 10 species from around the world. Examples include axis, fallow, kudu, wildebeest, aoudad etc.
Due to the long hours, the applicant must enjoy hunting and the outdoors. The hunting guide/intern will be guiding many clients this fall. The position runs from mid-August to mid-January. However if the hired guide is performing well and desires, the job can be lengthened into the spring, summer or even until the following hunting season. The hired employee will share an on site 3 bedroom house with our other seasonal guide. The guides will be issued a video camera for scouting and recording game, as well as a ranch truck for guiding and general ranch work.
Hunting guide/intern duties:
- Assist ranch biologists with spotlight line deer surveys
- Hunting blind preparation
- Cutting shooting lanes around blinds
- Fill feeders
- Scouting and videoing white-tailed deer and exotics
- Guide hunters
- Field dress harvested game
- Harvest excess does and undesirable bucks via deer permits (ranch staff will harvest 80-100)
- Harvest feral pigs
- General ranch maintenance
⚠️ This is not a breeder deer operation or a put and take exotic ranch. All white-tailed deer and exotics were born on the ranch.
