Hunting Guide / Wildlife Management Technician
Employment Type – Full Time
Job Location – Eustace, TX (90 minutes from Dallas Fort Worth, in East Texas)
Salary Range – $35,000 – $38,000 salary based on experience plus client gratuities
Position Summary
Lead guided hunting experiences while prioritizing client safety, ethical hunting practices, and exceptional guest service. A primary responsibility for this role is supporting Cedar Cove Ranch’s wildlife management program, including monitoring animal health, habitat conditions, herd dynamics, and population data to ensure long-term sustainability and trophy quality. Guides are expected to demonstrate deep knowledge of wildlife species, behavior, habitat management, and conservation practices while educating clients on responsible hunting and stewardship.
This role is also responsible for maintaining hunting equipment, blinds, feeders, food plots, and other ranch infrastructure to support safe and successful hunts. In addition to guiding hunts, this position assists with corporate retreats and group experiences hosted at the ranch, including activity facilitation, equipment preparation, and event setup and teardown to ensure guests experience a safe, professional, and memorable outdoor experience.
This role is ideal for a guide who takes pride in wildlife management, habitat improvement, and delivering high-quality hunting experiences — not just harvesting animals.
* High Fence hunting and wildlife management experience is required. Candidates without experience working on managed hunting ranches will not be considered.

Objectives
- Guiding and Outfitting:
- Lead hunting and fishing expeditions, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for clients
- Provide expert guidance on hunting and fishing techniques, as well as local wildlife behavior
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of firearms and fishing equipment
- Maintain an impeccable safety record by adhering to all hunting regulations and firearm safety practices
- Wildlife Stewardship:
- Follow and uphold established wildlife stewardship practices to promote conservation
- Monitor and record wildlife populations, behaviors, and health
- Assist with food plot preparation, feeder management, habitat improvements, and wildlife observation to support long-term herd health and trophy quality.
- Ensure wildlife safety practices are followed
- Participate in predator control as directed
- Maintain 0% wildlife death loss due to negligence
- Ranch Operations:
- Assist in the day-to-day operations of the ranch, including maintaining facilities and infrastructure
- Operate heavy machinery such as tractors, UTVs, and other ranch equipment
- Manage and care for livestock, ensuring their well-being
- Maintain trails, hunting blinds, and fishing areas to enhance the overall experience for clients
- Client Education:
- Educate clients on the importance of ethical hunting and fishing practices
- Share knowledge about local flora and fauna, fostering an appreciation for the environment
- Provide safety briefings and instructions on the proper use of equipment
- Equipment and Gear:
- Maintain optimal condition of all hunting equipment, firearms, and gear
- Keep an accurate inventory of equipment and flag needs for repairs or replacements
- Communication and Hospitality:
- Ensure a high level of client satisfaction by providing a safe and successful hunting experience
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere, ensuring client satisfaction
- Maintain high success rates during the hunts
- Provide clear instructions during activities and maintain open lines of communication with the team
- Maintain a high standard of ethical conduct, including respect for wildlife, respect for team members, and of course clients
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with fellow guides, ranch hands, and hospitality staff to ensure a cohesive team environment and seamless guest experience.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Knowledge of hunting regulations and conservation practices
- Strong knowledge of the market and industry trends
- Continuously improve hunting skills and knowledge, and stay updated on changes in hunting regulations and conservation practices
- Educate clients about legal requirements and promote responsible outdoor recreation
- Continuous Improvement:
- Pursue ongoing training and education to enhance skills and stay updated on industry trends
- Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously improve the quality of services provided
- Passion for the Outdoors:
- Maintain a deep passion for hunting, fishing, and wildlife, fostering a genuine connection with the natural environment
- Instill this passion in clients to create memorable and meaningful outdoor experiences
- Corporate Retreat & Guest Experience Support:
- Assist with the preparation and execution of corporate retreats and group events hosted at Cedar Cove Ranch. Responsibilities may include activity setup and teardown, assisting with outdoor experiences (such as shooting sports, fishing, UTV tours, and other guided activities), preparing equipment and venues prior to guest arrival, and restoring areas following events.
- Guides are expected to support the overall guest experience during retreats and events, working collaboratively with hospitality and ranch operations teams to ensure activities run safely, efficiently, and at the high service standards expected at Cedar Cove Ranch.
This role requires individuals who are comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, performing physical ranch work, and maintaining a strong work ethic during peak hunting seasons and guest events.

- Experience guiding exotic game species (Axis, Blackbuck, Kudu, Sable, etc.) preferred

Education & Experience
- Minimum of 4-6 years guiding experience
- A college degree is preferred, but not required
- Wildlife knowledge/experience is a must
- Experience guiding on managed or high-fence hunting ranches is required.
Work Environment & Expectations
This role is hands-on and physically demanding. Guides are expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions and assist with the full scope of ranch operations. This includes physical labor such as maintaining feeders and blinds, building and repairing fences, food plot preparation, equipment maintenance, and other ranch duties.
During peak hunting seasons and guest retreats, guides should expect long hours – early mornings, late evenings, and weekend work as needed to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
Physical Requirements
Specific physical requirements can vary depending on the type of hunting. Good eyesight, hearing, and capable to deal with physical discomfort at times are expected. Stamina should be capable of leading/keeping up with clients for the duration of the hunt.
