ABOUT CIBOLO CREEK RANCH

Cibolo Creek Ranch is one of Texas’s most iconic and historically significant properties — a luxury resort spanning 30,000+ acres at the foothills of the Chinati Mountains in the Big Bend region of West Texas. Established in the mid-1800s and operating as a full-service destination resort, CCR offers acclaimed accommodations, regional cuisine, and extraordinary outdoor experiences to a discerning clientele.

The ranch supports an exceptional and expanding hunting program encompassing both low-fence and high-fence operations, as well as a private members-only hunting club. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a serious, high-caliber hunting program at one of the most distinctive ranches in the American West.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced, driven, and professional Hunting Manager / Lead Guide to own and grow the CCR hunting program in its entirety. This is a working management role — you’ll be in the field with clients, managing the land, building the program from the ground up, and leading a team of guides and ranch hands. The position reports directly to the General Manager.

This is a full-time, year-round position, not seasonal. During the off-season, focus shifts from active guiding to land management, habitat work, game management, and setting up the following season for success.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Hunting Operations & Client Experience

  • Serve as Lead Guide on all CCR hunting activities — big game, exotics, and Scaled (blue) quail
  • Coordinate all aspects of the guest hunting experience from arrival to harvest, consistent with the standards CCR is known for
  • Manage the private members-only hunting club including scheduling, member relations, and program development

Program Development & Game Management

  • Survey and evaluate low-fence hunting areas to establish annual species availability and harvest recommendations
  • Coordinate with vendors and licensed breeders to stock and manage high-fence operations
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive game management program including population monitoring, camera surveys, and record keeping
  • Build and execute annual hunting program forecasts, pricing recommendations, and availability calendars

Land & Habitat Management

  • Manage blue quail habitat including brush management, water sources, and supplemental feeding
  • Oversee feeder maintenance, camera networks, and road and blind infrastructure
  • Lead land stewardship and habitat improvement projects during the off-season

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of guides and ranch hands
  • Set and enforce standards for safety, guest interaction, field conduct, and ranch care
  • Coordinate closely with the resort operations team to deliver a seamless guest experience

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of West Texas and/or arid Southwest big game hunting
  • Deep experience with the following species: Aoudad (Barbary sheep), Elk, Mule Deer, Bison/Buffalo, Axis Deer, and other exotics
  • Working knowledge of breeding, lifecycle management, and population dynamics for the above species
  • Experience managing or coordinating guided hunts and client logistics
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a field team
  • Strong land management and habitat sensibility
  • Valid Texas driver’s license; clean driving record
  • Ability to work demanding schedules during peak season, including weekends and holidays

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct guiding experience in West Texas / Big Bend / Trans-Pecos region strongly preferred
  • Experience with high-fence exotic operations and working with breeders
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) — a meaningful plus given our field staff and regional context
  • Heavy equipment operation (skid steer, tractor, loader, etc.)
  • Background in wildlife biology, range management, or related field

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Gratuities on all guided hunting activities (meaningful earning potential during season)
  • Performance-based annual bonus potential
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance options
  • 401(k)
  • Housing provided

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

CCR is actively investing in and expanding its hunting program — high fence infrastructure is under construction, the membership club is growing, and there is real runway to build something lasting. The right candidate will have the autonomy to shape how this program develops, with the backing of a respected resort operation and ownership committed to doing it right.

If you are a serious hunting professional who wants to move beyond guiding for outfitters and actually own and build a program at one of the most storied ranches in Texas — this is that job.

HOW TO APPLY

Submit a resume and a brief description of your hunting background, relevant species experience, and what draws you to this role. Photos of harvests and prior field work are encouraged. References from the past three years required prior to offer.
