Brookshire Farm
We are a grass fed/finished farm in on the Gulf coast in South Louisiana, looking for a long term intern with the possibility of moving into a full time position. We direct market beef in local farmers markets and also sell finished beef shares twice a year. We will give preference to candidates who have some experience with, operating tractors, small machines, and pulling trailers. Cattle experience is not necessary, but it is helpful. We use low stress cattle handling techniques so, hot shots, chasing cows with horses, etc is not necessary and discouraged.
Daily duties include moving cows, setting up paddocks, and moving water troughs/minerals. Other duties could include, sorting/ weighing cattle, fence repair, cutting grass, using weedeaters/chainsaws, among other things. We currently attend 3 farmers markets a month and you would be required to come assist with them.
There would be opportunities for you to start another sustainable agriculture enterprise, funded by us which you could sell at the farmers markets, where you would keep a portion of the proceeds.
Private housing and utilities would be supplied by us along with a weekly stipend depending on experience.
