A ~3,000 acre island off the coast of Long Island, New York. The island is rich in historical significance and has been in the family for hundreds of years. Most importantly, it is an extraordinary wildlife sanctuary. Our goal is to continue to preserve and maintain the island for many future generations.
You will work primarily outdoors in all seasons. Maintaining the island means a lot of physical and manual work, but we encourage you to take the time to stop and soak in the views, serenity, and wildlife. The work includes everything from habitat management, to building maintenance, to handling the logistics that come along with island life, and everything in between. Your responsibilities will include operating boats for island transportation or to support scientific research, operating large and small equipment, mowing fields, trails, and lawns, cutting and chipping trees, monitoring island systems (power, water, fuel, communications), combating invasive species, and deer management. You will work with the island’s small security team and may be called on to handle emergency situations.
