EXPERIENCED LIVE-IN KENNEL & FARM CARETAKER WANTED

Individual or Couple Welcome  |  Near Folsom Lake, Northern California

Paid temporary assignments  •  Lodging and groceries provided  •  Potential ongoing opportunities

DATES NEEDED: November 30–December 3 and December 16–17, 2026

About the opportunity

Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Club Rescue seeks an exceptionally reliable, trustworthy, compassionate, physically capable individual or couple for live-in care at a private five-acre property. This is a working rescue kennel and small farm, not a standard pet-sitting assignment. Experience handling giant-breed dogs and caring for equines is essential. An experienced couple is welcome to share duties.

Animals requiring care

  • Great Pyrenees rescue dogs in an established kennel; number varies, and puppies may be present.
  • Two personal Great Pyrenees dogs and one personal cat living inside the home.
  • One 21-year-old senior cat living in the rescue kennel.
  • Seven miniature horses and one miniature donkey.

IMPORTANT: NO PERSONAL PETS MAY ACCOMPANY CARETAKERS. Introducing unfamiliar animals is not safe in this setting.

Responsibilities and daily schedule

  • Early morning (by 6:45 a.m.): open designated kennel access doors, safely rotate rescue dogs into assigned outdoor yards, feed dogs and any puppies, provide fresh water, and clean and sanitize runs and bedding.
  • Around noon: let kennel dogs into their designated yards for potty breaks, then return them safely to assigned kennel areas.
  • Afternoon and evening: feed, water, check, clean as needed, and secure animals according to written instructions.
  • Equine care: feed and water the seven miniature horses and miniature donkey twice daily; move animals between barn and corrals as weather and routine permit.
  • House pets and senior kennel cat: provide meals, water, appropriate supervision, litter-box care, and weather-sensitive comfort for the elderly cat.
  • Special-needs animals: strictly follow veterinary directions, including exercise restrictions or medication instructions where applicable.
  • Laundry and supplies: wash kennel bedding and pads using the garage washer/dryer. A golf cart is available for moving supplies and must be plugged in when not in use.

Live-in arrangement

Caretaker(s) will stay in the owner’s residence for the full assignment, with groceries, food for meals, kitchen access, and comfortable accommodations provided. Continuous on-site responsibility is required; any brief necessary absence must be arranged in advance with suitable animal coverage.

Applicant qualifications

  • Substantial hands-on experience with giant-breed dogs; Great Pyrenees/livestock guardian breed and kennel or rescue experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience caring for horses or other equines.
  • Physical ability to perform feeding, cleaning, turnout, and routine animal-handling tasks safely.
  • Excellent verifiable references, sound judgment, reliability, and attention to animal welfare.
  • Willingness to complete identity and appropriate background screening and supervised on-site orientation before an assignment.
  • For couples, both applicants must satisfy applicable screening requirements.

Compensation and future work

Paid work; compensation to be agreed based on qualifications and duties. Please include your proposed daily rate or total assignment fee. We hope to build a relationship with reliable relief caretakers for two essential trips each year and possibly additional short assignments about once per quarter.

How to Apply:

Please email a brief introduction, relevant kennel/giant-breed and equine experience, availability for both 2026 assignments, references, proposed rate, and interest in future assignments.

Contact: Sierra Pacific Great Pyrenees Club Rescue

Exact address, access procedures, and sensitive animal-specific instructions are supplied only after candidate screening.
