74 Acres Near Chicago | Multi-Species Rotational Grazing Vision
Hi there,
We are Kakadoodle Farm, a regenerative, chemical-free farm and online farmers market located on 74 acres outside of Chicago.
We are currently looking for the right person or family to lease and operate the majority of our pasture ground as we transition the land from conventional row crop history into a long-term regenerative grazing system.
About the Property
- 74 total acres
- Currently only a small portion is in use for our pasture-raised egg operation (~1,500 laying hens)
- Remaining land is being transitioned with cover crops as we rebuild soil health
- Our goal is to establish a system of rotational grazing with multiple species, such as:
- Cattle
- Sheep
- Chickens
- Other compatible livestock
Infrastructure & Transition Plan
We are early in the buildout, but key pieces are underway:
- We have an RFSI Grazing Management Plan in place
- We are currently waiting on funding support for major infrastructure such as:
- Perimeter and interior fencing
- Water systems
- Additional grazing improvements
- A water line is already run out to the pasture, which is a major first step
Our ambition is to have the land in true pasture rotation within the next couple years.
Housing Opportunity
There is an old 5-bedroom farmhouse on the property.
It needs some work, but it is very close to livable. From the outside it admittedly has a bit of a “haunted farmhouse” look right now, but it has great bones and huge potential.
