Job Objective: Assist ranch management with meeting the goals and objectives of daily operations, maintenance, and natural resource management.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates safe practices and compliance with ranch rules at all times
- Harvests hay
- Maintains ranch buildings, ranch equipment (bulldozers, tractor, etc.) trucks, trailers, barn and barn equipment (i.e., tack, manure spreader, vacuum, blower, wheelbarrows, etc)
- Assist with maintenance and management of water development on the ranch
- Predator control of feral hogs and coyotes
- Clean up and beautification of ranch
- Application of herbicides to manage habitat, fencerows, and water traps
- Heavy equipment operation and maintenance (tractors, skid steers, backhoe’s)
- Fence construction, repair, and maintenance
- Assist with any and other ranch activities as assigned by ranch manager to aid in the development and startup process of ranching and wildlife operations
- Ride or check cattle pens daily
- Monitor water and water system with utmost importance
- Operate feed yard software effectively to determine amount of feed delivered and various inputs where management can determine accurate economics
- Notify appropriate personnel with information on dead cattle/health issues/maintenance items
- Identify sickness/injury/general health of livestock
- Doctor sick livestock with appropriate medications
- Process incoming livestock with appropriate vaccine protocols
- Knowledge and care for the upkeep of horse and tack
- Weigh and ship cattle
- Move, sort, and load cattle
- Load, operate, and distribute feed to pens when needed
- Operate trucks and trailer to move cattle as needed
- Operate feed truck when needed
- Conduct maintenance on any feed yard related equipment
- Record pens ridden with daily reports
- Gather and move strays to appropriate lots/pastures
- Assist with all aspects of cow/calf, stocker cattle, and feed yard operations
Qualifications:
- Prior ranch hand and/or grounds keeping experience
- Skill set should include the ability to operate ranch equipment (bulldozer, tractor, etc)
- Personal skills – ability to communicate well with others, give instruction, take instruction, affectively and rationally deal with conflicts /deadlines
- Dependability, punctuality, good character and good health
- Knowledge of all animals living on property (horses, cattle and other animals brought in)
- Works on every project with an eye for detail
- Adequate verbal, written, and mathematical skills
- Bi-lingual a plus
