Fifth generation progressive cattle and sheep ranch in west central Montana looking for a long term employee and new member of the team who is passionate about mechanics, equipment, fabrication, and farm and ranch work.
Duration: Position is year-round, full-time.
Position effectiveness areas and job duties include:
• Effectiveness areas:
o Ranch vehicles, equipment, and roads are well-maintained
o Successful hay crops grown, harvested, and stored, with bountiful re-growth for grazing
o High range and hay meadow integrity from effective weed control strategies
• Job duties:
o Keep all ranch equipment serviced and operational
o Stay within repairs budget
o Manage shop and ranch supplies
Order and coordinate supply logistics when necessary
o Help draft and execute irrigation plan, farm plan, fertilizer plan, haying plan, and weed spraying plan
o Skillfully operate heavy machinery, including D-6 Cat, tandem axle dump truck, road grader and excavator
o Maintain ranch roads:
Operate road grader, haul and spread gravel, plow snow, etc.
o Assist with livestock care and production events when necessary
o General maintenance and upkeep of ranch infrastructure:
Welding and Fabrication
Electrical and plumbing repair
Carpentry skills

The successful candidate must have the following work-related skills and abilities:
1. High mechanical aptitude and passion for anything from small gasoline engines to large diesel tractors
2. Skillfully operate heavy machinery, including D-6 Cat, tandem axle dump truck, road grader and excavator
3. Proficient in welding and fabrication
4. Haying and farming experience, including no-till
5. Experience with center pivot, wheel line, and hand line irrigation
6. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
7. Willingness and ability to work long hours and do rigorous physical work
8. Ability to do mapping exercises with Google Earth Pro
9. Basic reading, writing, and computer skills
Compensation:
