Position Summary

The On-Site Ranch Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all day-to-day operations. This role requires a strong commitment to the values of Toeppich Cattle Company and the ability to lead, mentor, and manage ranch staff while maintaining the highest standards of safety, stewardship, and operational excellence.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds or more and work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong independent work ethic with the ability to take initiative, while collaborating effectively as part of the Toeppich Cattle Co. team.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks, and be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal transportation required (work truck provided for ranch operations).
  • Prior experience operating and maintaining ranch equipment preferred (e.g., tractors, trailers, backhoe, bulldozer).
  • Experience in trade work is a plus (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical repairs).
  • Must be willing to travel to West Texas ranch once a month for overnight visit

Overall Objectives

  • Lead, mentor, and manage ranch staff and contractors, ensuring clear delegation and accountability.
  • Promote a culture of safety, stewardship, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee operational budgets and financial management, focusing on profitability and sustainability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and revenue-generating initiatives.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Equipment

  • Maintain and repair ranch infrastructure including fences, roads, water systems, housing, barns, corrals, ponds, and other buildings.
  • Maintain and service all ranch vehicles and equipment including tractors, dozers, and feeders.
  • Implement wildlife habitat improvement projects.
  • Oversee ranch beautification projects such as lawn care, weed control, barn cleaning, and vehicle maintenance.

Contractor Management

  • Solicit and compare bids for projects and meet with contractors to review scope of work.
  • Ensure contractor work meets project expectations and deadlines.
  • Maintain ranch tools, vehicles, and equipment in good working order, scheduling repairs as needed and transporting equipment to service locations.

Cattle Management

  • Monitor cattle health, welfare, and access to food and water.
  • Develop and execute an annual cattle management plan including pasture rotation, breeding and calving cycles, and buying and selling strategies.
  • Monitor pasture conditions and coordinate animal vaccination, branding, and transport to market.
  • Identify and provide treatment for sick or injured animals as needed.

Wildlife Management

  • Ensure wildlife has consistent access to food and water.
  • Maintain and refill feeders regularly.
  • Assist designated hunting guides, including supervising hunters and processing wildlife.
  • Monitor and control predator activity as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records for cattle and hunting operations.

Residential & Property Maintenance

  • Maintain lawns and irrigation systems surrounding residences and barns.
  • Oversee home maintenance including HVAC, plumbing, propane, pest control, appliances, Wi-Fi, electrical systems, and security.
  • Ensure houses are clean, stocked, and prepared for guests, including groceries and inventory management.
  • Receive and assemble packages as required.
