We are an outfitter in the Golden Trout Wilderness in the Southern Sierra Nevada’s looking to add 2-3 packers to our team. We offer guided fly-fishing trips, hunting trips and drop trips to several camps ranging from 5-28 miles into the backcountry. The pack station has been in operation for nearly 100 years and has been under the management of Steve Day for the last 14.

Our ideal candidate demonstrates strong horsemanship skills, patience, great attention to detail, excellent care for livestock, experience working in the backcountry and the ability to lift packs up to 75 lbs. on to an animal. Horseshoeing is a plus. No prior experience packing is required.

Our packstation is seven miles off of Hwy 190, near Ponderosa, California, a friendly mountain community. Golden Trout Wilderness abuts Sequoia National Park and National Forest. The wilderness is exceptionally beautiful with a fraction of the tourists of Sequoia or Yosemite. Our pack trips focus on the Kern River, a designated Wild and Scenic river holding native and heritage populations of Kern River Rainbow and Golden Trout. Find us on Facebook or Instagram (Golden Trout Wilderness Packtrain) or our website (www.goldentroutpacktrains.com) for more pictures and information.
