We’re interviewing to hire a part-time Caretaker to oversee a 250-acre historic property located in Round O, SC along the inland side of the ACE Basin Project. Round O is a rural area of Colleton County near Walterboro and is an hour from Charleston and Savannah, and 45 minutes to smaller historic towns of Beaufort and Summerville. The ideal candidate must have basic knowledge of landscaping, wildlife management, and basic knowledge of carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, farming, and gardening. Proper operation of tractors and other farm and landscaping equipment is required. Candidates must pass a background check. A safety-first mindset by the candidate must be top priority. Position requires routine duties which may be daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. The availability to be on-call 24-hours a day is required at times. Position may also require work on both holidays and weekends, and your participation in some festivities is welcomed when permitted.

Salary is based on experience. Additional perks include a work truck, mobile telephone, one week paid vacation. Sharing of garden crops and other harvested items. Hunting and fishing privileges of select game species may be permitted and must strictly adhere to planned game management practices and all Federal and SC state laws. If you wish to have any horses or other farm animals, permission may be granted with the condition that you must maintain any fencing and facilities, and cover all costs for any upkeep, feed, and veterinary expenses. If interested, on-property lodging along with basic utilities (within reason) may be extended to the ideal candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and fueled
  • Food plot and feeder management
  • Cutting and stacking of firewood
  • Cooking and serving for occasional events
  • Heavy equipment operation on occasion
  • Landscaping of grounds
  • Vegetation control (mechanical and chemical)
  • Road, trail, and fire-line maintenance
  • Assist and monitor prescribed burns
  • Assist in guiding private hunts
  • Wild game cleaning
  • Routinely clean and maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities
  • Fueling of canisters
  • Trash removal
  • Litter pick-up (adjacent roadsides)
  • Harvesting of crops and other planted items
  • Tree and lawn care
  • Gardening
  • Irrigation
  • Assist in the monitoring of any contractors/3rd parties performing work on-property
  • Monitor for any trespassers
  • Predator and varmint management
  • Deer stand maintenance
  • Overseeing owner’s personal pets as needed
  • Organize and submit any receipts relating to the property
  • Chainsaw and pole saw operation
  • Facility maintenance (i.e. pressure wash, painting, pest and termite controls, etc.)
  • As well as any other duties designated by the owners
