Simon L.
Hello everyone,
I’m Simon L. and am a 30-year-old Korean, currently living in New Jersey. I’m seeking an opportunity to make a genuine, long-term career change into ranching.
I want to be completely upfront: I have no previous agricultural or ranching experience.
I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and have spent my professional career working in finance. While I’m grateful for the education and professional experience I’ve gained, I’ve realized that I would much rather pursue a hands-on career working outdoors, particularly with animals.
I’m interested in working with all kinds of livestock, including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and horses. I’m open to different types of ranching and livestock operations, as my primary goal is to learn the industry from the ground up.
I’m not pursuing ranching for a romanticized cowboy lifestyle. I’m approaching this as a serious career change, with the long-term ambition of becoming a ranch or farm general manager.
I understand that reaching such a position requires years of hands-on experience, sound judgment, and a thorough understanding of the operation. I have no expectation of bypassing that process.
I want to learn every aspect of running a ranch or livestock farm, including animal care, feeding, breeding, herd health, pasture management, equipment operation, facility maintenance, staffing, resource allocation, financial planning, and any operational management.
I understand that agricultural work can be physically demanding, with long hours, unpredictable schedules, difficult weather, and emergencies requiring attention regardless of the time of day. I’m prepared for those realities and would welcome a position offering substantial hands-on experience.
I’m not seeking the highest starting salary. At this stage, gaining experience, developing practical skills, and learning the operation are more important to me than maximizing immediate compensation. I would welcome a demanding workload with varied responsibilities and opportunities to learn, provided the compensation and working arrangements are fair.
Above all, I prioritize trust, loyalty, and respect. I’m looking for an employer who is willing to invest in someone with no agricultural background, and I intend to repay that investment through hard work, reliability, and long-term commitment.
My ultimate ambition is to become someone an owner can confidently entrust with the operation, knowing that the animals, employees, facilities, and daily responsibilities will be properly cared for even in their absence.
I don’t expect that level of trust to be given to me immediately. I want to earn it through years of consistent work, learning, and demonstrated responsibility.
I’m not looking for a temporary adventure or a seasonal change of scenery. My hope is to find an established operation where I can build a lasting career, grow alongside the business, and eventually contribute to its long-term success.
I’m willing to relocate anywhere in the United States.
Employer-provided housing is a requirement, as I would be relocating. I’m open to discussing different arrangements, including on-site accommodations or employer-provided housing nearby. I do not currently hold a driver’s license, but I am fully committed to obtaining one upon employment.
I’m happy to begin with basic responsibilities such as feeding animals, cleaning facilities, repairing fences, and assisting with general farm or ranch work. I believe learning the fundamentals properly is essential before taking on more advanced responsibilities.
I understand that hiring someone without agricultural experience requires patience and training. If you’re willing to give a motivated beginner an opportunity, I would be grateful for the chance to speak with you.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Simon L.
