Ty F.
After 20 years of extensive experience as a professional chef, I have spent the last few years building new skills in home repair and renovations, landscaping, welding, and mechanical repair. I am looking for an onsite position as a caretaker of a private property or ranch where I can combine my skills to add value through hardscaping or home improvement, taking care of the grounds, growing fresh vegetables, and occasionally crafting unique dining experiences.
I attended culinary school at Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, SC, which launched a career where I grew to manage large-scale fine and casual dining operations. Born and raised in Utah, I’ve lived west of the Rockies for almost all my life and am passionate about outdoor recreation and creating unique dining experiences, so one of my favorite positions was as the head chef of a fly fishing lodge on the Bighorn River where I created 5-course tasting menus for each night of our guests’ stay, often using farm to table ingredients from a large garden I tended on site. Another favorite position was when I became the river chef of a whitewater rafting company in Jackson, where I created a cast iron camp dinner on the banks of the Snake River with an ever-changing menu.
Those favorite experiences reinvigorated my passion for work in the outdoors and building new skills working with my hands, so I began to seek new trades a few years ago, first in emergency medicine as a ski patroller and EMT, and more recently by welding, fabrication, carpentry, landscaping, servicing appliances and hottubs, and other home repair with positions as a handyman and as a member of a hardscaping team. In the last few years, I also have been restoring a 1984 Wrangler and 1995 Cherokee and constructed fences, built-in shelving, custom steel garden boxes, barn doors on industrial treads, and outdoor patios. I also have experience with operating bobcats and other large machinery and managing snow from time serving in the Coast Guard. I also worked as a whitewater raft guide for multiple seasons, so in addition to bringing my own tools, I could bring my 16’ raft and could facilitate day rafting or fishing trips if desired.
I’m now looking for a position where I can bring these skills together to take care of a large property in a rural or alpine environment, where I can maintain and improve buildings and structures, take care of the land and gardens, and perform additional seasonal tasks as needed. While I’m not looking for a full-time private chef position, I would be happy to occasionally cook special meals for the owners or their guests. I’m looking only for a position where on-site housing would be provided with space for my 3 year old firecracker of a daughter, my well-behaved pup, and my wife, who works remotely as a natural resources lawyer, shares my passion for the land and a job well done, and could handle additional property administration needs. My wife and I met while guiding wildlife tours in the Yellowstone Area, and she previously also worked on a trail crew as a National Forest Service ranger and worked in housekeeping at a guest ranch in Montana, so between the two of us, we have a wide array of experiences in property and household management and work exceptionally well together, whether in the kitchen, in the garden, or on the river.
If my skills sound like a fit for your property, please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank you for your time and consideration.
