I am seeking a live-in position on a ranch, farm, horse property, rural property, or private property where a dependable on-site presence would be genuinely valuable.
What I do best—and truly enjoy—is helping an owner who cannot be present every day by stepping into that gap as a trusted on-site presence. I pay attention to the property as an owner would: noticing when something needs care, taking appropriate action, communicating clearly, and following through. My goal is to ease the owner’s burden and provide confidence that the property is being thoughtfully and competently looked after in their absence.
My current owner, a longtime real estate developer, writes this in his letter of recommendation for me: “Individuals who can be entrusted with the care and oversight of valuable real estate with minimal supervision are rare. She is one of those individuals.”
For the past five years, I have served as caretaker for the same private Colorado horse property for two successive owners, remaining with the property through a change in ownership. My role includes overseeing the property, including its residence, barn, grounds, and property systems. I am seeking my next position because the property is being sold again. Excellent references are available from both the current and previous property owners.
My connection to rural life began on the Midwestern crop and livestock farm where I grew up. I studied animal science at Kansas State University while earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Journalism. My background also includes involvement in the county 4-H horse program and a year in the equestrian science program at William Woods College. I am comfortable in agricultural settings, around barns and livestock, and handling horses.
I bring a combination of rural understanding, professional communication skills, organization, attentiveness, and sound independent judgment. I notice what needs attention, take initiative, and coordinate repairs or maintenance.
Compensation is flexible and can reflect the overall arrangement, including housing and responsibilities. The right fit is more important to me than a specific salary level.
Western states are strongly preferred, particularly Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, Idaho, Colorado, Nevada, and surrounding areas.
