Hello. My name is Daniel and I was born and raised on a 4,000 acre sheep and cattle ranch in New Zealand and grew up immersed in ranch life developing a strong aptitude for animal welfare, stockmanship, and exposure to all aspects of running and maintaining a farm/ranch.
Upon graduation from high school I was enrolled in the Taratahi Agricultural Training Center, then was employed over the next 7 years on several sheep and cattle ranches, further developing my skill set and experience to the different practices involved with differing styles of ranch management.
After a hiatus from the agricultural industry to embark on world travel and opportunities abroad, 5 of which I resided in the U.S, I moved back to New Zealand to continue my career and my passion in ranching, where I was employed for 4 years in the role of Senior Shepherd on a 3,000 acre ranch/farm running 4,500 head of Romney breeding ewes and 1,000 head of Friesian bulls that are brought in as weaners and fattened through to 2 year-olds.
Last year my wife (who is American) and I had an opportunity to relocate to Minnesota, where I’m currently employed on a farm here running 1,500 breeding ewes and 300 head breeding cows.
I have a strong passion for training and working sheep dogs and have brought a New Zealand herding dog to America with me from New Zealand who is an extremely well trained and experienced stock dog.
In addition to my experience on traditionally run ranches, I was also employed for a year running a New Zealand farm show for the public at Nasu Animal Kingdom in Japan.
I have completed two degrees in Agriculture. The first from the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand in Agriculture – Sheep Option, and level 3 of the NZQF in sheep farming.
I am physically fit, hard working and experienced with all activities involved with ranch life including permanent fencing, setting up and dismantling of temporary electric fences, hand piece work, machinery operation, stock work and animal handling etc. My horsemanship skills are average at best, but my first ranching job I was employed for 2 years on a hill country ranch in New Zealand where all mustering was done on horseback, so I’m not completely green with horse experience.
My wife and I are looking for an opportunity to relocate for the right position. I would also consider a seasonal or temporary position for a solo housed position.
