Couple Seeking Property Caretaking Position, looking to relocate outside of Texas
Combined Salary $80,000-$100,000, depending on benefits.
We are Chelsea and Benjamin, a hardworking, reliable couple in our mid thirties. We love to work hard outside and thrive in various conditions. We work well together and individually. We are looking for a long-term or seasonal position as a property caretaker or a land management role. We are open to other possibilities. We can provide thorough property and/or estate management with an attention to detail. We are resourceful, creative and strong communicators. We can listen to what is desired of a project and deliver in detail. We currently maintain many high-end client properties all over the city of Austin, Texas and wish to consolidate to a singular property where we can put our skills and passion to work in a more natural setting. We are open minded and fast to learn and adopt new techniques.
Background
Benjamin grew up on a generational cattle and crop farm in the Texas Panhandle. He has a passion for animal husbandry and hard work out of doors. He grew up learning the basics of maintaining a homestead and a working farm. He has cared for various farm animals over the course of his life. He is skilled in and comfortable operating heavy machinery. He moved to the city in pursuit of his degree from Texas State University, where he majored in Horticulture and Geography. He stayed after college and began landscaping. He is a thorough and insightful property manager for his client base in Austin.
Chelsea gained experience working as a farmhand on a small family farm in Northern Michigan for a few seasons in her twenties. She eventually transitioned to running and maintaining a small homestead of her own, also in Northern Michigan. She is proficient in growing vegetables, fruits and perennials. She has raised chickens, and pigs. She has experience doing forestry work and land management. She is comfortable and proficient using heavy machinery. She is most comfortable in rural settings. She has been managing client landscapes as a career for a decade on and off, in Texas and Michigan. She is an attentive listener, with an eye for detail. She relocated full time to Austin where she met and joined Benjamin in his landscape business.
Skillset
Land management:
- Cutting, trimming, and maintaining pasture, lawn, gardens, forest, meadow and trail systems.
- General fencing maintenance and repair.
- Invasive removal as needed or desired: well versed and passionate about North American native species.
- Proficient in the use of tractors, ATVs, shredders, chainsaws, trimmers, etc.
Water Source Management:
- Stock tank maintenance through routine cleaning.
- Invasive removal along waterways and riparian zones using intentional .
- Irrigation audits and upkeep.
- Water system improvements as needed.
Animal Husbandry:
- General care of Beef Cattle, Goats, Chickens, Water fowl.
- Maintaining herd welfare through keen observation, vaccination, castration and processing for preventative maintenance.
- Prioritizing access to clean water and food resources.
- Ability to build and maintain necessary fencing, rotationally graze animals.
Household support:
- Cleaning
- Laundry
- Organizing
- Stocking groceries and various supplies
- Keeping living spaces guest-ready.
- Vegetable garden food production.
- Working and communicating with vendors, contractors, guests, other employees when needed.
Garden Management:
- Propagation and nursery management for saplings, vegetables, fruits and perennials. Specializing in North American Native species.
- Greenhouse management
- Pest identification and management using effective and targeted measures.
- Invasive removal, using targeted, intentional measures.
- Considering the general health of the ecosystem to build resilient gardens.
- Planting, watering, weeding, and top dressing as needed.
- We are proficient in designing and maintaining thoughtful, well rounded gardens.

Absent or Elderly Estate Support
We understand the need in many instances for help on properties that are not lived in year round, or where the occupants have aged out of the ability to do routine maintenance and upkeep. We can step in to provide reliable hands-on assistance and management of many systems. Observing and executing general road maintenance, building upkeep, repairs to equipment and infrastructure. We will help maintain herd and land vitality. We are strong, persistent, and have an eye for detail. We are good at estimating for projects, working with vendors or contractors to obtain supplies and products when necessary. We are efficient communicators who can keep your property running smoothly while being mindful of owner privacy and guest comfort. We can provide a daily presence and a self-sufficient mentality where we can take direction and provide outstanding results. We are discreet, respectful and will care for the property to the highest standard. We can lift over 50 pounds repeatedly.
What We Are Looking For:
Full-Time Employment for two people with Private Lodging provided, preferably within a reasonable commute to the work site, if not on site. Salary is negotiable. Seasonal shift in hours is also negotiable. Use of a work vehicle, if and when necessary, which would be thoroughly maintained by us. We would prefer to be located in a rural setting near hiking, swimming and outdoor recreation. We have no children or pets. We enjoy camping, canoeing, fishing, botanizing and the simpler things in life. We generally keep to ourselves after work. We like to cook, clean and tend to personal gardens or needs. We are mindful and tidy tenants who maintain our personal spaces to the highest standard. We are professional and friendly people who look forward to building a strong, sustainable working relationship with our employers.
