Seeking a Long-Term Home with a Progressive Cattle Operation — Mountains of NM or AZ, Texas Hill Country, West Texas

POSITION SOUGHT

I am a ranch-raised cattleman with 20+ years of hands-on commercial and registered cow/calf experience, seeking a full-time, long-term position with a solid cattle operation.

I am open to working as a foreman, manager, or ranch hand, depending on the needs of the operation. I am comfortable taking on lead responsibilities and managing a small crew for the right outfit.

I am an independent, self-directed operator who is accustomed to getting the job done without supervision. I take pride in my work, understand the responsibility that comes with caring for livestock and property, and am looking for an operation where I can contribute for the long term.

CATTLE & LIVESTOCK EXPERIENCE

My background includes 8 years at Beckton Stock Farm in Wyoming, the foundation herd of the Red Angus breed, with comprehensive experience leading the calving barn on a 1,200-head operation.

My livestock experience includes:

Commercial and registered cow/calf operations
Low-stress stockmanship
Horseback cattle work
Herd health and processing
Sorting and doctoring
Calving and calving-barn management
Branding and freeze branding
Annual bull sale preparation
Yearlings
Roping
Haying
Cattle handling and routine ranch operations
All types of terrain

I can hold my own in the branding pen, but I am not a primary roper. I also do not shoe my own horses or start/work colts.

I believe in being confident in my skills while being straight-shooting about my limitations. I won’t tell you I can do something I can’t.

HUNTING & GUIDE EXPERIENCE

I also have some experience as a hunting guide, including guiding for whitetail, mule deer, and an occasional elk.

My experience includes field care and caping, firearms safety, and working with hunting clients in a ranch environment.

Cattle production is my primary focus and the type of operation I am seeking. However, my hunting background allows me to bring additional value to a cattle ranch with an established hunting or outfitting component. I am willing to obtain a guide license in any state.

RANCH, TRADE & EQUIPMENT SKILLS

I bring considerably more than cattle experience to an operation.

Custom pipe and sucker-rod corral fabrication
Heavy structural welding
Extensive wire and boundary fencing
Land and ranch maintenance
Heavy equipment operation
Active Class A CDL — qualified to operate vehicles up to 26,000 pounds
Hunting-guide experience

I am comfortable troubleshooting problems, maintaining facilities, operating equipment, and handling the practical work that keeps a ranch running.

HORSES & DOG

I will be bringing two seasoned ranch horses:

One primary, highly capable top horse
One solid older horse suitable for close-up cattle work and routine tasks

We also have a well-behaved corgi.

He is not a cow dog.

WE ARE NOT SEEKING COUPLES EMPLOYMENT, BUT MY WIFE COULD BE AN ADDITIONAL ASSET

She is also a seasoned, capable ranch hand. Depending on what she can find for work, she is available to help during high-demand periods such as calving, shipping, branding, and processing. There is also the possibility of part-time employment with the ranch if needed. She has cooked for hunting camp and is an excellent hostess.

She brings two professional credentials that can be valuable to a remote operation:

Licensed Paramedic — Emergency and critical-care experience, providing an additional level of medical and safety capability in a rural environment.

Professional Auctioneer — Non-livestock auctioneer.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

After leaving our long-time base in Wyoming, we have been looking for the right operation—not simply the next job.

We want to find a stable, progressive cattle ranch where I can become a dependable, long-term part of the operation, put down roots, and contribute for years to come.

Our preferred areas are milder-climate mountain areas of Arizona or New Mexico, the Texas Hill Country, or West Texas

We would consider a working guest ranch or cattle operation with a hunting component, provided cattle production remains the primary focus.

HOUSING & COMPENSATION

On-ranch housing and utilities are required, along with beef, a competitive compensation package and insurance.

LONG-TERM COMMITMENT

I have demonstrated long-term loyalty throughout my career, including 8 years with Beckton Stock Farm.

I am not looking to bounce from ranch to ranch. I am looking for an operation where hard work, honesty, practical skills, and dependability are valued—and where I can stay and become a trusted part of the outfit.
