Howdy! My name is Aaron W., and I am seeking a non-paid internship at a cattle ranch to improve my cattle working skills over the month of July. I will have a full month of paid leave before I report to my next duty station, so I’d like to take full advantage of this time. I am open to relocating anywhere in the continental United States; the only housing considerations I have are 3 hots and a cot.

As the son of a veterinarian in South Texas, I have extensive knowledge of bovine health and welfare in squeeze chute operations; I specifically want to dedicate the month of July to cattle work outside squeeze chute operations as well as expand my knowledge of bovine practices, both mounted and unmounted. I am cow/calf BQA certified, I developed a proficient riding base on my college rodeo team, and I spent the summer of 2025 working cattle in Colorado (primarily mounted). I have roped less than a dozen yearlings, but I have worked multiple brandings. The bottom line is I have a solid intro to cowboy skills, and I want to maximize the time I have available to learn as much as I can.

Having held other ranch jobs in Texas, I understand a ranch hand position includes other jobs such as checking fence, chainsaw operation, etc. I am not shy to this work, but would hope to get at least a few hours horseback every other day. Given that I only have a month to maximize this experience, I am more than willing to dedicate 12-14 hours each day for the whole month to learn as much as I can (save Sunday mornings).

Upon request, I can provide a more extensive resume, letters of recommendation, or videos of myself riding at each gate as well as roping from different positions. I am also open to starting an email chain to answer any questions or provide further information. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you!
