Josh M.
Willing to text
My name is Josh. I’m a Wyoming native originally from Cheyenne, and I’m looking for ranch work that could help me work my way toward becoming a wrangler, activity guide, or guest ranch hand on a dude ranch.
I want to be upfront: I am not currently an experienced wrangler, and I would not want to misrepresent that. It has been a number of years since I have ridden horses regularly, though I did spend time around horses and farm life growing up through my grandpa’s farm. I’m comfortable being outdoors, I’m physically capable, and I’m willing to start where I need to start in order to learn the right way.
My strongest background is in Parks & Recreation. Since 2021, I have worked as a Recreation Coordinator, planning and running programs, classes, camps, events, and community activities from start to finish. I’ve worked with all age groups, from young children to seniors, and I’m very comfortable leading activities, speaking in front of groups, helping guests, solving problems, and keeping things organized when there are a lot of moving parts.
I believe that experience could translate well to a dude ranch or guest ranch setting, especially with guest activities, outdoor programs, recreation support, hospitality, events, general property work, and eventually guided rides or other guest experiences once I have the proper horse experience.
Before working in Parks & Recreation, I worked as a personal trainer and earned my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Wyoming. I have always preferred active work, and physical labor is not something I shy away from. I stay in good shape, I’m used to long days, and I’m looking for work where I can be on my feet and useful.
I also have past experience in hospitality, including luxury hospitality work at California wineries while I was building my personal training business after college. I understand the importance of guest service, professionalism, and making sure people have a good experience, while also doing the behind-the-scenes work that keeps an operation running.
I have also run archery programs through Parks & Recreation and am comfortable with hiking, mountain biking, outdoor youth programs, camps, and general recreation activities. I know those things are not the same as working on a ranch, but I do believe they give me a good foundation for guest ranch work.
At this point in my life, I’m looking to step away from public-sector government work and return to something more grounded, closer to the land, and closer to the kind of lifestyle I grew up around and value. I understand that I may be looking after the peak dude ranch season, and I also understand that I still need to build the qualifications to become a true wrangler.
What I can offer right now is a strong work ethic, reliability, physical ability, guest-service experience, activity leadership experience, and a serious willingness to learn. I’m open to ranch hand work, guest ranch support, activity support, maintenance/property help, hospitality, recreation programming, or any role that could help me get my foot in the door and grow from there.
I have no wife or kids, so relocating is not a major obstacle. I could make a move as soon as early September. Housing is preferred, but I am open to considering opportunities without housing if reasonable nearby options are available. I’m currently in TX, but looking for work in WY, MT, northern CO or that general area of the country.
Thank you for your time. I’d be glad to talk with any operation looking for someone dependable, teachable, physically capable, and serious about learning the work.
Josh
