Professional Ranch-Hand needed

We have an outstanding opportunity for an individual or working couple on a beautiful 1,300-acre ranch near Bondurant, Wyoming. Living and working on a ranch surrounded by thousands of acres of the Bridger-Teton National Forest is an opportunity few people will experience. We are looking for a professional couple that appreciates the lifestyle, doesn’t mind hard work, and has experience working with breeding, raising horses, and the business of ranching.

About the Position

Areas of responsibility will include assisting in the development and implementation of a special equine breeding program. Additionally, the role will be responsible for helping administer educational and recreational horsemanship programs designed for the novice, as well as more experienced equestrian guests. Operations will expand over the next few years as will the level of responsibility for the right individual(s).

This opportunity is perfect for an individual or couple who can split their time assisting with the care of world-class brood mares and their foals, and the ranch’s miniature donkeys, overseeing a barn of riding horses, researching genetic lines, all while using a proactive nature to stave off any potential issues. Daily responsibilities may include feeding, watering, and checking on the well-being of the animals, regular fence maintenance, and landscaping, maintaining and organizing other ranch buildings, pastures, barns, and property roads, putting up hay/feed, snow removal, and general property maintenance. As with any job, there are always many more duties than those listed.

We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable about horses, enthusiastic about acquiring new skills, enjoys spending time outdoors, is not afraid of hard work, can wake up early, is willing to ask questions when needed, and can work well both independently and as part of a team. Previous experience as a veterinary technician or farrier would be an advantage. An additional benefit would be finding someone capable of preparing meals and cleaning the guest houses.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • This is a position for experienced equine professionals; similar to a horse vet tech. Certification is not required but skills, knowledge, willingness to learn, and interest in making a breeding program and an all-inclusive guest experience into “first-class” operations are.
  • Able to safely perform ranch-related duties including 10-12 hour days (sometimes) in hot and/or cold outdoor conditions.
  • Not scared around large or small livestock. We have miniature donkeys that need to be cared for as well.
  • MUST be an observant person by nature.
  • Must have a mature attitude, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and with others.
  • Must have good organizational skills, including organizing workspaces and keeping records.
  • We are looking for someone who is pleasant to work with, has a cooperative demeanor and cheerful outlook.
  • Must be willing to work early mornings and late evenings when needed.
  • Capable of operating equipment including pickups, pulling trailers, and driving tractors.
  • Must be able to safely exert considerable physical effort to stoop, crouch, and lift 50 pounds or more.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Prior experience as a farrier is a plus.
  • No drugs allowed.

Things to Consider & How to Apply:

This is not your ordinary Guest Ranch. We expect to employ extraordinary people who want to work with us long-term and make our passions their own. People with the maturity to understand that their contributions are integral to the overall success of this beautiful ranch. Please consider if you might be one of those individuals (or a couple) and if so, send your resume and cover letter to our email address listed.

Please include a phone number on your resume. We conduct several phone interviews, possibly a video interview, and an in-person interview for qualified candidates.

The exact salary amount will be decided depending on the individual/couple and their skill set.

A benefit package with medical, dental, vision, retirement and PTO is available.
