Ranch Foreman or Couple – Diverse Ranch Operations

Lazy T Ranch | Ten Sleep, Wyoming
Full-Time, Year-Round | Competitive Compensation DOE

Lazy T Ranch is a 1,000-head cow-calf, yearling, and performance horse operation. We are seeking a Seasoned Ranch Foreman or an experienced Couple to play a key role in the daily operations of a privately owned working ranch in Ten Sleep, Wyoming. This position is best suited for a ranch professional who takes pride in livestock management, ranch upkeep, and leading by example, while also supporting the General Ranch Manager and Ownership as needed.

This role requires strong stockmanship, sound judgment, attention to detail, and flexibility. While ranch and livestock responsibilities are the primary focus, the successful candidate must also be willing to assist with other ranch and property needs as they arise.

Leadership & Crew Coordination

This is a leadership role. The Ranch Foreman is expected to:

  • Plan daily and weekly work priorities
  • Coordinate and schedule crew labor
  • Train employees in cattle handling, horse care, equipment use, and ranch standards
  • Hold crew members accountable to safety, animal welfare, and work-quality expectations
  • Communicate clearly with the General Ranch Manager regarding progress, issues, and needs

General Ranch & Livestock Responsibilities

Ranch and livestock operations are the core of this position and will include regular, hands-on involvement in:

  • Daily care, movement, and monitoring of livestock
  • Assisting with calving, breeding activities, and shipping
  • Identifying and treating illness
  • Participating in grazing and pasture management
  • Working cattle horseback, including roping when necessary
  • Must be familiar and able to implement BQA, Gap, NHTC, or other certification requirements
  • Training, maintaining, and using ranch horses for daily operations
  • Assisting with irrigation systems, water infrastructure, and pasture upkeep
  • Participating in hay production and farming activities
  • Fencing, facility, road, and equipment maintenance
  • Operating ranch equipment and performing routine maintenance and repairs

Strong horsemanship and practical roping skills are essential. A solid understanding of cattle behavior, seasonal ranch work, and low-stress handling practices is expected. Accurate record keeping is a critical component of this role. The Ranch Foreman will be responsible for maintaining livestock records, including treatment, calving, and breeding, as well as pasture records. They must be comfortable using computers and basic software, such as Excel, Word, or similar ranch management tools.

Support, Hospitality & Miscellaneous Duties

As part of a privately owned ranch operation, the Working Ranch Foreman must also be flexible and willing to assist with additional duties when needed. These may include:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of ranch buildings and residences
  • Light home and property maintenance
  • Running errands and assisting with supplies or deliveries
  • Limited guest hospitality for ranch ownership, family, and their guests
  • Assisting with basic administrative tasks beyond livestock records
  • Occasional cooking or meal assistance when necessary

This is not a guest-ranch or hospitality-focused position; hospitality duties are occasional and secondary to ranch operations.

Couple Option

Lazy T Ranch is open to hiring either an individual Foreman or a Couple, depending on experience and fit.

If hired as a couple, the partner role may include:

  • Assisting with limited guest housing coordination and housekeeping turnovers
  • Light administrative or record-keeping support
  • Taking photos or videos for social media marketing
  • Seasonal ranch help during calving, shipping, or haying
  • Occasional cooking or logistical support for ownership and staff

The partner role can be part-time or full-time, depending on skills, interest, and ranch needs.

Schedule & Seasonality Expectations

This is a full-time, year-round position. Hours vary by season:

  • Calving, shipping, and haying seasons require long days, flexibility, and occasional on-call availability
  • Outside of peak seasons, schedules are more regular, with a typical workweek and planned time off

Candidates must be comfortable with the realities of seasonal ranch work and weather-dependent demands.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus but not required)
  • Willingness to work long hours during peak seasons
  • Strong horsemanship; roping skills required
  • Solid cattle-handling and stockmanship background
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to maintain equipment (preferred)
  • Comfortable using smartphones, apps, and basic computer tools for records

Compensation & Benefits

Lazy T Ranch offers competitive compensation based on experience: Benefits may include: ranch housing and utilities, ranch vehicle for company use, paid time off, beef, bonus potential (based on performance), health insurance options, and board for personal horses.

Details will be discussed with qualified candidates.

How to Apply

Please email a resume and brief cover letter outlining your ranch experience, horsemanship background, and familiarity with record keeping and ranch operations.

Equal Opportunity & Housing Disclaimer

Lazy T Ranch is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Housing, if provided, is contingent upon continued employment and ranch needs.
