Teanaway Eagle Ranch
The Ranch/Forest/Property Manager will be responsible for the comprehensive oversight and management of an approximately 1,500 acre property assemblage encompassing ranch land, forested areas, two primary residences and four dry cabins. This role requires an individual with expertise in ranching and property management, as well as a willingness to learn forestry and perhaps some elements of hospitality industries. Desire to build a high quality cattle herd (50-100 head). The Ranch Manager will oversee all aspects of the operations and land management and treat the property as if it were their own.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a comprehensive land management plan with the assistance of third party consultants, that balances ranching, forest health and wildlife conservation activities
- Monitor and manage grazing land, ensuring adequate forage and water for livestock utilizing a virtual fence strategy (experience with or willing to learn)
- Oversee forest health including limited timber harvesting, tree planting, thinning and fire management activities
- Develop and execute wildlife management strategies including habitat maintenance under the direction of third party consultants
- Manage natural resources including ponds, rivers and riparian areas ensuring health and proper function
- Oversee and implement strategies for controlling invasive species and promoting native plant growth
- Ensure the maintenance and appearance of the residences and dry cabins to a high standard, ready for occupancy at all times
- Plan and oversee maintenance repair schedules for all buildings and equipment (truck, excavator, tractors, snow mobiles, side by sides, quads)
- Manage and maintain fences, gates and other ranch infrastructure
OTHER DUTIES
- Assist financial personnel with establishing budgets and financial records as necessary
- Coordinate with ownership on the procurement of supplies and repair items
- Serve as the on site contact for the owners and guests, addressing inquiries and/or troubleshooting ensuring a positive experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience in a similar role managing a large property with a combination of ranching, forestry and residential components
- Experience in property maintenance, including building and infrastructure upkeep, landscaping and equipment operation
- Working knowledge of land management practices including forestry and wildlife management, and potentially livestock care a plus
- Strong problem solving and decision making abilities working independently with limited supervision
- Experience with residential construction and “no fence” herd technology is a plus
- Solid communication and interpersonal skills to interact with owners, staff, vendors and guests
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position requires living on site in Ranch housing (provided) in order to able to address issues as they arise
- Moderate physical labor and the operation of equipment will be required in a variety of weather conditions
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Currently not envisioned to be full time work week
- Salary range $30,000 – $60,000 plus housing, negotiable
- Company provided housing consists of a 3 bedroom, 4 bath residence with shop
- Initial employment will be “contract basis” via Form 1099 reporting
- Will re-evaluate to potential employee status including W-2 with healthcare benefits after six months
- Potential partial ownership of ranch operating entity after two years of employment
- Ranch provided housing with paid utilities
IMPORTANT SKILLS & TRAITS
- Prior experience as a general superintendent would be helpful
- Enjoys planning, taking initiative to get things done and doing things right
- Enjoys being organized, busy and working on projects
- Skilled at building and maintaining homes
- Knowledgeable about raising cattle and/or willing to learn
- Knowledgeable about forest management and/or willing to learn
- Must have honesty, integrity and strong work ethic with good communication skills
