Our Vision
We hope to create a place where good horses and good horsemanship are valued above speed or production. Our ranch is dedicated to heritage livestock conservation and also serves as a peaceful place of retreat, and we believe the horse program should reflect those same values. We are looking for a horseman or horsewoman who appreciates quiet, thoughtful training and would enjoy helping shape a small draft horse program built on trust, patience, and partnership with the horse. Our goal is to develop American Cream Draft horses and Clydesdales for trail riding and driving using a calm, observant approach to training.
About the Ranch
Great and Small Creatures Ranch is a 93-acre ranch in East Texas dedicated to heritage livestock conservation and hosting retreats. The ranch maintains a variety of rare and historic breeds including Longhorn cattle, Navajo-Churro sheep, Meishan pigs, poultry, and a growing herd of horses.
Current Horses
- 3 American Cream Draft weanlings needing groundwork and development
- 2 Clydesdales rescued; brought back to health and conditioning
- Several saddle horses needing maintenance riding
Responsibilities
- Training young draft horses through groundwork and riding
- Developing horses for trail riding possibly driving
- Daily barn management and horse care
- Maintenance riding of saddle horses
- Helping develop the long-term draft horse program
- Feeding and helping care for other livestock on the ranch (sheep, pigs, poultry, etc.)
- Occasional assistance with hay production and ranch activities
Compensation
- Full-time ranch manager position
- Salary dependent on experience
