About Storybook Ranch:
Storybook Ranch is a growing ranch located in the scenic heart of Northeast Texas. Our current focus is on land management and improvement of our beautiful natural landscape spanning over 900-acres, with active hay and timber operations. We are seeking a hands-on, experienced Ranch Hand to assist the Ranch Manager in all daily operations, from landscape management, farm equipment operation and maintenance to fence repair and general property maintenance.
Position Highlights
A Ranch Hand performs daily operations and maintenance of the ranch’s equipment and vehicles and general maintenance of all aspects of the property. This includes repairing fences, building repairs and maintenance and landscaping. This position requires reliable working knowledge of farm equipment and ability to operate this equipment, such as Skid Steer, tractor, bush hog, Z-Turn mower, trailered sprayers, heavy duty trucks with trailers (gooseneck and flatbed), and UTV’s. Duties vary but mostly involve outdoor work in all weather conditions and require physical strength, a willingness to work long hours utilizing practical, hands-on skills. Key responsibilities include landscape maintenance, general building and fence repairs, machinery mechanics and maintenance, irrigation, lake management, haying, and timber, as well as basic equestrian care.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
Safely operating and maintaining machinery such as skid steer, tractors, bush hog, mowers, trucks with trailers, and UTVs. Performing basic mechanical repairs on tools and equipment.
Property Maintenance:
Mowing, trimming, irrigating, and conducting regular clean-ups for groundskeeping. Assisting in ranch development plans and activities. Maintaining deer corn and protein feeders and hunting cameras.
Fencing & Repairs:
Building and repairing fences and maintaining various structures on the ranch property.
Agricultural Tasks:
Assisting with planting, harvesting, haying and timber operations, managing agricultural irrigation systems and lakes.
General Ranch Operations:
Performing varied tasks to ensure the smooth running of the ranch, which can include anything from dirt removal to managing inventory.
Equestrian Care
Care and feeding of future horses, with daily riding, stable cleaning, veterinarian care coordination and transport. We currently do not have livestock or horses on property.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Physical Stamina:
The job requires significant manual labor and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Practical Skills:
Experience with a range of tools and equipment, basic mechanical ability, hay, timber, and basic equestrian.
Adaptability:
The ability to learn and perform diverse tasks and cross-train in different aspects of ranch operations is crucial.
Problem-Solving:
The capacity to identify and resolve issues as they arise on a day-to-day basis.
Work Environment
- Ranch hands primarily work outdoors.
- The work can be strenuous, requiring physical strength and coordination.
- Long hours are common, especially during busy seasons.
- They may live on or near the ranch and work varying schedules.
