We are looking for ranch help on a family wheat and cattle ranch. Since we are a family farm, the successful applicant MUST be willing to help out with any work that needs to be done. We raise wheat, hay for our own use (not irrigated), and around 100 head of cattle. We are old-fashioned in many respects (not a guest ranch or progressive outfit) and want cattle worked in a quiet, low-stress manner.
Because of rugged terrain, we prefer to work cattle via horseback when possible. Our horses are retired, and the successful applicant must have their own horse(s) for checking and working cows, and checking and fixing fence.
While horse skills are necessary, most of the tasks will NOT involve horses, and may range from washing equipment to building corrals. Work depends on weather and time of year, but often involves field work (cultivation, planting, harvest, haying), maintenance of sheds, fixing up equipment to keep it in good working order, maintaining yards, cleaning corrals and sheds, working cattle (branding, vaccinating, weaning), etc.
We are in an isolated location in Montana, and experience living away from the city is highly recommended. Tobacco and drug free workplace.
Salary is paid on a monthly basis, and depends on experience. On-farm housing may be possible for interested parties. Some farm/ranch experience with cattle or crop production is required.
Requirements:
- Your own horse, truck, and trailer to haul it (compensation for horse and truck available—can discuss)
- Some experience in cattle care, crop production, or other farm/ranch work
- Ability to take direction well
- Ability to work with others or on your own
- Willingness to pitch in
