WANTED Ranch Hand: Full-Time & Year-Round

Little Ridge LLC is a privately owned 500-head cow-calf operation located in Dell, Montana. The program includes a commercial herd of Red Angus, along with registered Hereford and Murray Grey cattle.

We are seeking an experienced Ranch Hand to join the operation as a dependable right-hand to the Ranch Owner. This position is best suited for someone who takes pride in the ranching and farming lifestyle, is detail-oriented, and thrives in a hands-on, hardworking environment. Housing is provided on-site.

Position Overview

This is a full-time, year-round role with hours that vary seasonally. Calving, shipping, and farming seasons require long days, flexibility, and on-call availability. Applicants must be comfortable working in all weather conditions and adapting to the seasonal demands of a working ranch.

The ranch consists of approximately 3,000 acres of deeded ground and 3,000 acres of state ground. The majority of the deeded acreage is irrigated, including pivots, flood and sub-irrigation systems, and wheel lines.

For the upcoming season, farming operations will be handled by a third party; however, all irrigation responsibilities remain in-house. With calving season is coming to an end, the primary focus of this role will shift toward irrigation, weed control, and fence maintenance during the summer months, alongside ongoing cattle responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain clear and consistent communication with the Ranch Owner regarding daily operations and ranch needs
Provide daily livestock care, including feeding and mineral program management
Monitor herd health, identify illness, and perform doctoring as needed
Assist with calving, including night checks, pen cleaning, and record-keeping for registered herds
Support breeding programs, including AI
Manage grazing and pasture rotation
Work cattle horseback, as well as with SxS and ATV
Perform fence building, repair, and general facility maintenance
Operate ranch equipment and carry out routine maintenance and repairs
Mix and apply herbicides for weed control
Maintain cleanliness and organization of ranch buildings and workspaces
Run ranch-related errands and assist with supplies and deliveries

Qualifications

Prior ranching experience is required
Strong knowledge of irrigation systems, water infrastructure, and pasture management
Experience handling livestock and working and doctoring cattle independently
Familiarity with equipment operation and fundamental mechanical skills
Ability to work long hours in physically demanding conditions
Self-motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented
Experience with hay production and farming operations is preferred for future seasons
