Ranch Hands are responsible for helping with all different aspects of ranch operations.

Essential Functions:

Day-to-Day Operations of Cattle

  • Continuously treating the animals with respect
  • Maintain observation for health issues
  • Satisfactory performing doctoring duties
  • Rotating stock through pastures
  • Restock mineral supplements
  • Preform calving duties
  • Willingness to learn calf delivery techniques
  • Maintaining calf health and growth
  • Calculating feed rations for cattle
  • Delivering feed to various groups of cattle around ranch
  • Maintaining comprehensive and current records of cattle health and condition

Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate equipment from chippers to farm tractors
  • Maintenance duties on all motorized equipment
  • Routine feedings with grinders and mixers
  • Unloading feed trucks with hay or grain
  • All aspects of Haying
  • Safely operate trucks, 4-wheelers and other various equipment

Pasture maintenance and irrigation

  • Effectively running wheelines
  • Routinely starting electric pumps
  • Farming and reseeding fields
  • Maintaining landscaping including spraying weeds
  • Repairing underground irrigation mainlines
  • Winterizing all irrigation equipment
  • Fencing including wire, rail, and steel repair

Job Specifications / qualifications

Skills-Required

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Associate’s Degree in Agriculture or related field is highly recommended or 3 years of experience
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and able to complete projects with limited or no direct supervision once trained
  • Desire to improve processes and efficiency throughout the operation
  • Possess the ability for strategic planning for the future of the operation and ability to see projects through to completion
  • Ability to work long hours (80+ hours per week during peak seasons which include planting and harvest)
  • Ability to work well with others and possess good communication skills
  • A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) would be helpful, but not required
  • Ability to artificially inseminate would be helpful, but not required
  • Noxious weed applicator Lic. Would be helpful, but not required
  • The ability to saddle and ride horses long distances
  • Satisfactory background check

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, 100+degrees to -30
  • The noise level is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud.
  • Must be able to stand, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift/ move up to 100 pounds with assistance
