Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, hardworking Ranch Hand to assist with the daily operation and maintenance of a wildlife hunting ranch. This position is responsible for ranch infrastructure upkeep, wildlife management activities, equipment operation and maintenance, and seasonal hunting support. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical skills, experience operating heavy equipment, a working knowledge of wildlife species, and the ability to work independently in outdoor conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ranch Maintenance & Infrastructure
- Perform general maintenance and upkeep of ranch houses, barns, outbuildings, roads, and ranch infrastructure.
- Conduct routine inspections and repairs of ranch facilities and equipment.
- Maintain ranch grounds, including mowing, brush control, and debris removal.
- Assist with improvement projects and construction-related tasks as needed.
Wildlife & Habitat Management
- Provide supplemental feeding for whitetail deer, exotic game species, and other wildlife.
- Monitor wildlife populations, feeding programs, and habitat conditions.
- Assist with wildlife management activities, including feeder maintenance, water systems, and habitat improvements.
- Maintain familiarity with whitetail deer and exotic species commonly found on the ranch.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Safely operate and maintain ranch equipment, including tractors, skid steers, backhoes, ATVs, trailers, and other ranch machinery.
- Perform routine maintenance such as lubrication, fluid checks, filter replacement, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate major repairs when necessary.
Water Systems & Fencing
- Install, inspect, repair, and maintain PVC water lines, water troughs, pumps, and related infrastructure.
- Repair and maintain perimeter and interior fencing, gates, and livestock/wildlife enclosures.
- Respond promptly to infrastructure failures to ensure uninterrupted ranch operations.
Hunting Operations & Guest Services
- Assist with seasonal hunting operations and hunter support.
- Guide hunters during scheduled hunts while promoting safe and ethical hunting practices.
- Field dress, cape, and clean harvested animals in a professional manner.
- Prepare hunting areas, blinds, feeders, and related facilities for guests.
- Assist in providing a positive guest experience during hunting seasons.
Qualifications
- Experience working on a ranch, farm, hunting operation, or similar outdoor environment preferred.
- Knowledge of whitetail deer, exotic game species, and wildlife management practices.
- Experience operating heavy equipment, including tractors, skid steers, and backhoes.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Experience with fencing, plumbing, PVC water line repair, and general ranch maintenance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.
- Hunting and guiding experience preferred.
