Our Farm:

Our growing farm is seeking a ranch hand or couple to support our daily operations. The farm owners (husband and wife) are actively involved in the day to day management of animals and the land, but they also routinely travel offsite. The farm is raising a rare breed of pig on pasture, with the goal of crafting the first American cured meat products from this heritage pig. The large property is sometimes used by outside groups for vacations, retreats, meetings, and recreation, with a goal of additional agro-tourism and events in the coming years. The ideal candidate(s) will be able to work alongside the owners as well as independently, creating and maintaining a seamless farm and land operation at all times regardless of who is onsite. Salary will be determined based on duties, experience, and individual or 2 people working, and housing (if desired).

Responsibilities include:

  1. Routine care, feeding, watering of animals across various pens and pastures. Stock bedding, food and water at stations across the property. Interact with young animals to support their domestication and routine-building.
  2. Daily cleaning, sanitizing, composting, raking, replacing bedding, and other tasks to keep all animal living and feeding areas very clean, tidy and healthy. Maintain biosecurity at all times.
  3. Assist with animal births, vaccinations, weighing, castration, tagging, ear notching, breeding, and record keeping of same. Monitor animal behavior and health with owners.
  4. Assist with sorting and moving animals across large acreage and establishing a movement routine (training animals to return to a central location, training on hot net/wire, etc.). Must be comfortable handling swine safely, both independently and as a team. Swine experience specifically is not required, but candidates should have large livestock experience and be willing to learn about swine health and behavior.
  5. Proactively monitor, repair and build infrastructure including permanent fencing, temporary pens, electrical fencing/netting, gates, etc. Walk fencelines, monitor ditch levels, look for predation, anticipate challenges, and intimately learn the land to help owners spot and repair issues before they become true problems.
  6. Safely operate and maintain ranch equipment (tractors, mowers, excavator, skidsteer, ATV, trailers, etc.).
  7. General ranch maintenance and projects as needed including ditch clearing, burn piles, weedeating, mowing, cutting fallen trees and branches, trail maintenance, and when owners are gone, assist with maintenance of the pool, pond, orchard, garden, and other personal owner infrastructure. Must be able to lift 50+ pounds and safely operate equipment.
  8. Ranch errands including supply runs, feed runs, transporting animals, and other offsite errands as needed. Interact with vendors to order supplies. Maintain inventory.
  9. Ability to work with the owners and independently. Seek out projects and always be motivated to find the next productive task. Good communication and record keeping. Willingness to learn and jump in at any time as well as being flexible.
  10. It is possible, though not required, that hospitality for guests and/or domestic help could be included in the role, especially if the applicant is a couple. Please let us know if this interests you and we can discuss duties and salary.

Housing Offered: Fully furnished, high end, private 2 bedroom/1 bathroom house + utilities can be included as part of the wages starting in early September, 2026. The property is suitable for families; there is a bus to the Red Bluff schools and an active homeschool support program nearby. A small guest house with kitchen could be available immediately for the right candidate(s) who want to start before September and are flexible on housing over the summer. In 2027, the housing to be provided will be immediately offsite in a new 2 bedroom home on about 1.5 acres (currently being built). The area is rural and about 30 minutes from the nearest town, but there is an active community who works together, hosts events, and supports each other.

The owners are friendly, private, hardworking and prefer applicants who are respectful, tolerant, clean and discreet.
