Whistling Elk Ranch

Circle C Ranch – Rand, is still affectionately referred to as Whistling Elk Ranch by all. It’s a family-owned private guest ranch for friends and family. We typically have guests or owners at the ranch a few times a month.

We are located in the North Park Valley of Colorado just a few miles outside of the heart of Rand, Colorado. We sit on approximately 3500 acres at 8600-9600 feet elevation. We are 30 minutes from the town of Walden, 1 hour north of Granby, 1 hour east of Steamboat Springs, and 3 hours from Denver.

Position: Property Maintenance/Wrangler (full-time – not a cowboying job)

Job Description:

This position requires a multi-faceted skill set to be successful. This job involves taking care of horses and people as well as taking pride in the property you help maintain. The position calls for a thoughtful, engaging, hardworking individual who has a true love and appreciation for the country lifestyle while living and working day to day in a REMOTE location.

Some days will be long hours and will be physically and mentally demanding. This is a special property with much to care for and even more to enjoy. We have a small team of people – being a team player and willing to pitch in and do what is needed for the betterment of the ranch and its guests is essential.

This position reports to the Ranch Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist Ranch Manager with tasks/projects – be open to learning new things.
  • Cleaning and prepping houses, vehicles, ATVs, and recreation areas prior to the owner and guest arrivals.
  • Mowing, weed eating, light tree trimming, and lawn maintenance around all buildings.
  • General housekeeping and cleaning. Depending on the season, there can be a lot of cleaning at times.
  • Seasonal projects – structure maintenance, general maintenance, trail maintenance, fence upkeep, snow removal, landscaping, irrigation, etc.
  • Maintain horse facilities and equipment.
  • Exercise/ride horses regularly as directed.
  • Oversee trail rides with guests – using proper guest safety and trail safety for the rider’s abilities.
  • Some days will be longer than others based on current projects and guests on the property.
  • Be flexible as guests arrive. You will likely be invited to or leading some guest activities.
  • Operate tractors, skid loader, and other equipment (dependent on project need and experience)

  • Critical thinking skills
  • Be flexible, outgoing, willing to do, willing to learn, and always do your best the first time
  • Excellent horsemanship skills with an easy and gentle approach
  • Experience (or willingness to learn) in the health of horses and the care of sick and injured animals
  • Experience in teaching basic horsemanship skills, coaching riders
  • Comfortable conversing with guests on the trail and around the ranch
  • Good communication skills with guests and management
  • Comfortable operating (or willing to learn how to operate) machinery and equipment
  • Coachable and open to other ways
  • Willing to take initiative and ownership of bettering the property (pick up trash, turn off lights, spot broken items and fix or report, have an eye for detail).

Compensation:

Furnished 1 bedroom apartment with satellite internet. Not suitable for families.
$30,000 a year with benefits for full-time employment.
