Job Requirements:
- Must be physically fit! You will have to be capable of digging a hole and setting a RXR tie!
- Must have an even temper, can do, will do, coachable attitude.
Job description: (notice this is a list of duties that could be expected at either of these positions, no qualifications, we don’t want to hear “hey this wasn’t part of the job description!”)
- Ride and rope (at the same time)
- Ride and train young horses
- Trim horses
- Take care of cattle: vaccinating, calving (May-July) moving cattle (using a horse or feed to move them) sorting, pairing out, tagging, branding, etc etc.
- Maintain windmills/stock tanks
- Roll hay up in the summer unroll hay in the winter and be able to take care of and use all the machinery involved with haying and feeding
- Help maintain three center pivots
- Maintain ranch vehicles
- Fix and build pasture/corral fence
- Guide bison/deer hunters
- All types of carpentry
- Welding
- Painting
- Yard work
- Cleaning Windows
- Doing any task that needs done even when it is too dark, cold, hot, and windy.
A young married couple with children would be an excellent fit, as there are five children under the age of six on our Merriman ranch. We value a family-friendly environment and are looking for someone who appreciates that setting.
We also welcome applications from single individuals, as we have positions available on two separate ranches — one located near Merriman, Nebraska, and the other near Brownlee, Nebraska.
Housing guidelines include allowing one pet dog per household. Dogs must not be working dogs or aggressive toward livestock, chickens, or cats. Horses are permitted provided they contribute to ranch work. No stud horses are allowed, and we ask that there be no more than two horses per helping family member. (Some of these guidelines are negotiable depending on the applicant)
