We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Ranch & Horse Facility Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a private Western-performance horse ranch near Waco, Texas.

This person will serve as the owner’s primary point person for the horse facility and ranch operations. The position requires strong practical ranch-management ability, excellent horsemanship, leadership, equipment competence, and meaningful experience working around a horse breeding program.

A college degree is not required. Proven work experience, judgment, reliability, horsemanship, and leadership are substantially more important.

Primary Responsibilities Ranch & Facility Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day ranch and horse-facility operations.
  • Receive priorities directly from the owner and make sure work is completed properly and on schedule.
  • Direct and coordinate existing barn and facility staff.
  • Maintain high standards for barns, stalls, aisles, pastures, paddocks, fencing, gates, water systems, roads and general ranch appearance.
  • Identify maintenance and repair needs proactively and coordinate completion with ranch staff or outside vendors.
  • Help manage hay, feed, manure, pasture and paddock operations.
  • Operate and oversee the proper use of tractors, skid steers, UTVs, trucks, trailers and other ranch equipment.
  • Coordinate routine equipment maintenance and recognize problems before they become major repairs.
  • Assist hands-on with ranch work when necessary while effectively delegating work to existing staff.
  • Maintain an organized, safe and well-run horse facility.

Horse Management & Horsemanship

  • Oversee daily horse care, turnout, feeding and general horse management.
  • Confidently handle broodmares, foals, young horses and performance horses.
  • Coordinate veterinary and farrier schedules.
  • Monitor horse condition and identify potential health or soundness issues promptly.
  • Maintain appropriate horse, veterinary and ranch records.
  • Western-performance horse experience—particularly cutting, reining, reined cow horse or Quarter Horse programs—is strongly preferred.

Breeding Program

  • Minimum 3 years of meaningful exposure to horse breeding/reproduction preferred.
  • Experience may include broodmare management, foaling, breeding-season operations, AI/ET programs, recipient mares, coordinating with reproduction veterinarians and stallion stations, or managing staff involved in breeding.
  • Help oversee broodmares and foals and coordinate breeding schedules with veterinarians and reproductive facilities.
  • Monitor mares approaching foaling and assist with foaling/newborn care as needed.
  • Maintain accurate breeding and foaling records.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an experienced ranch or horse-facility professional who can take ownership of the operation rather than waiting to be told about every individual task.

The right person notices when a fence needs attention, equipment needs servicing, a pasture or barn needs work, a horse does not look right, or staff priorities need to be adjusted—and takes action.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Significant hands-on ranch and horse-facility management experience.
  • At least 3 years of meaningful horse-breeding exposure.
  • Excellent horsemanship.
  • Proven ability to supervise and direct employees.
  • Experience operating tractors, skid steers, UTVs, trucks and trailers.
  • Practical knowledge of fencing, gates, water systems, barns, pastures and general ranch maintenance.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate directly with ownership.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Strong professional references.

College degree is not required. Relevant work experience will be given substantially greater consideration than formal education.
