Position Overview
Darwin Ranch is a high-end hospitality operation located in a remote and rugged setting. We are seeking a motivated, dependable individual to join our close-knit team as we replace a long-standing team member who is retiring.
This is a dynamic, all-around maintenance position that combines property upkeep, ranch support, guest-facing responsibilities, and logistical coordination. The ideal candidate thrives in a remote environment, works independently without daily direction, and contributes positively to a hardworking, team-oriented culture. A strong work ethic, sense of humor, and kindness are highly valued.
Primary Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance across ranch facilities and infrastructure
- Repair minor plumbing, furniture, window screens, irrigation systems, and other property items
- Conduct seasonal and ongoing maintenance including:
- Battery equalization and monitoring
- Generator oil changes and servicing
- Hydroelectric system greasing and monitoring
- Cleaning grease traps
- Cleaning and maintaining wood stoves and chimneys
- Irrigation pipe repair and maintenance
Off-Grid Electrical System Management
- Monitor battery state of charge
- Operate generators as necessary
- Adjust and monitor hydroelectric systems
- Learn, interpret, and execute maintenance procedures according to ranch documentation
Ranch & Operational Support
- Assist with general ranch tasks as needed (e.g., manure removal, irrigation adjustments, equipment upkeep)
- Support hospitality operations, including occasional dishwashing and guest interaction
- Stoke and maintain sauna wood fires
- Contribute wherever needed to ensure smooth daily operations
Logistics & Town Runs
- Travel approximately 25 miles via dirt road, followed by an hour on paved road to town every other week (or as necessary) to:
- Empty dump trailer
- Purchase tools, building materials, animal feed, and groceries
- Safely trailer dump trailers, horse trailers, and heavy equipment trailers
Documentation & Communication
- Read, interpret, and follow ranch manuals
- Document completed work and contribute updates to ranch maintenance documentation
- Identify issues proactively and resolve them without direct supervision
Required Qualifications
- Strong work ethic and ability to work long hours in an outdoor, remote setting
- Self-starter capable of identifying and addressing issues independently
- Ability to work collaboratively and interface professionally with guests
- Comfortable towing trailers (dump, horse, and heavy equipment)
- Willingness and ability to learn off-grid electrical systems
- Organized and detail-oriented; able to document completed work
- Confident using standard shop tools
Preferred Skills
- Woodworking experience
- Basic welding skills
- Foundational knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems
Compensation
- $3,000 per month
- Typical additional gratuities average approximately $3,000 per month
- Housing: private wall tent with furniture included.
