A 2,000-acre private mountain property located in San Miguel County, Colorado, is seeking a seasoned Ranch Manager to oversee all aspects of ranch operations. This family-owned ranch includes 250 acres of flood irrigated pasture meadows and a balance of native range and forest. The property serves both as a part-time private residence and a hospitality destination for family and guests.
This is a hands-on, management-level position requiring a proven leader with strong experience managing multifaceted, high-end ranch operations. The Ranch Manager will be responsible for agricultural activities, land stewardship, property maintenance, hospitality services, budget planning, staff supervision, and strategic development.
Key Responsibilities
- Full Operational Leadership of agricultural, hospitality, recreational, and facility functions across the property
- Develop and execute a 5–10-year capital improvement plan; manage an annual operational budget and asset inventory
- Prepare and deliver an Annual Ranch Work Plan outlining project goals, initiatives, and resource needs
- Lead a multidisciplinary team, including full-time, part-time, and contract staff
- Direct hospitality services for owners and guests, ensuring a seamless, high-standard experience
- Oversee all facilities and infrastructure, from buildings and landscaping to equipment and fleet maintenance
- Manage irrigation, summer grazing lease, and natural resources to align with best land use practices
- Maintain ranch security and coordinate with the Home Office on all administrative and HR functions
- Represent the ranch positively in the local community and among neighboring businesses and organizations
Key Qualifications
- 5 years of ranch or property management experience
- Demonstrated expertise in natural resource management, guest services, infrastructure, and employee leadership
- Strong project management, budget planning, and strategic planning skills
- Hands on experience and physically capable of performing essential job duties including heavy equipment operation and maintenance, snow removal, fence repair and construction, flood irrigation, and a working knowledge of water rights
- High attention to detail, professionalism, and discretion
- Confident, adaptable, and proactive problem-solver
- Skilled in recruiting, training, and managing multidisciplinary teams
- Strong conservation ethic and familiarity with forest and wildlife management practices
- Hands-on and service-oriented approach to working with principals and guests
- Commitment to long-term tenure
- Flexible, non-traditional work schedule including occasional weekends and holidays
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- CPR and First Aid certification required
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with good driving record
