Key Responsibilities

  • Herd Management: Oversee health and welfare of 1,000+ Black Angus X cattle and execute detailed breeding plans to meet production goals.
  • Ranch Operations: Manage daily operations including grass ranges, grazing rotations, water systems, and feed production across 2,000 acres of dryland crop ground.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with leadership to execute risk management and marketing strategies based on market conditions and seasonal trends.
  • Leadership: Supervise Kansas ranch employees, recruit quality staff, and manage work assignments and schedules while fostering positive relationships across the organization.
  • Financial Management: Partner with company CIO to optimize profitability, conduct asset reviews, and develop ROI proposals for ranch improvements.
  • Reporting: Conduct monthly leadership meetings to present operational updates, project status, and strategic plans.
  • Infrastructure Management: Oversee maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of all ranch infrastructure and equipment.
  • Administration: Manage accounting records and organizational documentation.
  • Compliance: Monitor government agricultural programs.

Reporting Relationship

The Ranch Manager will report directly to the company CIO (Chief Information Officer). Feedback, updates, and communication must be clear and executed timely as well as attend annual Board of Director’s meetings and/or prepare reports on ranch progress and updates.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience             

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture Business, Ranch Management, Animal Nutrition or related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive ranch management experience with beef cattle operations – preferably black angus x.
  • Proven experience managing cattle herd of 500+ hd.
  • Demonstrated experience in dryland farming operations (1,000+ acres preferred)
  • Previous supervisory experience managing ranch staff and operations

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Black Angus breeding programs, genetics, herd health, grazing management, and pasture optimization
  • Proficiency in dryland crop production, forage management, and rotational grazing systems
  • Strong understanding of cattle market fundamentals, pricing trends, risk management, and hedging strategies
  • Familiarity with government agricultural programs, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Proficient in agricultural software, record-keeping systems, and financial management tools
  • Strong financial literacy including budget management, ROI analysis, cost control, and basic accounting principles
