The Colvin Ranch is a family-owned and operated cattle ranch located in south Thurston County, Washington, near the small town of Tenino. The ranch was founded in 1851, and is one of the oldest ranches in the county still owned by the original family.

Five generations later, the Colvin Ranch family heritage continues through our humane livestock handling, stewardship of the land, and sustainable grazing practices that allow native and endangered plants to flourish alongside our all-natural, grass-fed cattle. We sell our products directly to consumers and through farmers’ markets, retail outlets, and restaurants.

Our business is growing, and we are looking for an experienced Ranch Manager to oversee day-to-day operation of the ranch, and manage product sales and deliveries. The primary responsibilities for this role are in both livestock production and sales/marketing.

Livestock Production:

  • Overseeing the management, feeding, and care for all livestock, including animal health, nutrition, and pasture management
  • Feeding hay to cattle as needed and feeding pigs daily
  • Ordering hay, feed, and minerals, and overseeing their delivery to the ranch
  • Managing pastures following sustainable grazing practices and rotational grazing plans, and implementing weed control measures
  • Managing livestock health, including vaccinating and treating livestock as needed
  • Tagging, banding, and treating newborn calves
  • Gathering, sorting, and moving cattle
  • Repairing and maintaining fences, corrals, water systems, and barns
  • Scheduling the maintenance of equipment
  • Hiring and managing part-time and seasonal help

Sales and Marketing:

  • Arranging processing reservations, transporting livestock, and picking up meat from processors
  • Tracking and confirming customer orders
  • Coordinating customer pickups and deliveries, and attending farmer’s markets
  • Hiring and managing part-time staff for farmer’s markets and delivery routes
  • Packing orders for farmers markets, stores, and other outlets
  • Writing and sending customer emails, newsletters, and other communications
  • Managing the website and social media
  • Maintaining animal records and business records

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience
  • AA, BA or BS degree, preferably in an agriculture-related field
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills
  • Ability to operate equipment (including tractors, backhoes, ATVs, and pick-up with stock trailer) in the daily operation of the ranch
  • Valid Washington State drivers license

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Beef and pork
  • 3-bedroom housing available on the ranch
  • Vacation and sick leave
  • Annual bonus
