On-site Ranch Manager needed to oversee all operations at ranch in east Texas.

This position will be responsible for all aspects of daily operations. Primary responsibilities include cattle production, wildlife management, lake & fisheries oversight, hay production, planting/farming applications, habitat creation, general upkeep & maintenance, and employee oversight. In-depth knowledge of all operations is not required, but candidate should have a strong background in the majority of the existing ranch operations.

Candidate should be a self-starter who is not afraid of hard work. Needs to be organized and a good communicator. Should be able to keep detailed records and provide written electronic reports to owner. The manager will work closely with owner to develop and implement annual management plans and budgets.

The ranch currently employs several other individuals in various capacities. Ranch Manger will need to oversee these individuals, but is also expected to be heavily involved with the day-to-day manual labor. Being a team player with a positive attitude is a must!

Ranch has the potential to be a trophy property, but there are still improvements to be made on the ranch. As such, this job will require a proactive mindset – the position is not simply looking over a turnkey operation. As the nature of the work requires, the schedule will include working nights, weekends and holidays as needed. Candidate must be flexible to address ranch requirements outside of normal operating hours.

Candidate should be qualified to execute the following (not limited to):

Full-time cattle operation (cow-calf 30+ head):

  • Check cattle regularly to monitor health
  • Manage supplementation and hay feeding, application of minerals
  • Organize cattle processing activities to work / vaccinate calves & cows, preg check, etc.
  • Provide basic animal health treatments (assist with calving difficulties, treat for foot rot, respiratory, etc.) to prevent death/loss or poor livestock health
  • Assist in marketing and shipping of calves; replacement and bull selection
  • Plan and manage pasture rotations of cow herd through pastures
  • Document and monitor health records of cattle, sales data, inventory information, etc.

Farming & Haying operations:

  • Manage fertilizer / weed control applications
  • Participate & manage all aspects of hay production; monitor inventory
  • Collect hay samples and soil samples for analysis

Hunting / Fishing (whitetail, waterfowl, largemouth bass):

  • Work with Wildlife Manager to coordinate annual wildlife plan
  • Prepare & manage food plots / blinds / feeders / etc.
  • Detailed harvest records for wildlife and lake
  • Bi-annual camera surveys
  • Lake fertilization, sprayings & habitat improvements
  • Hunter / fisher assistance & hospitality
  • Game cleaning & skinning
  • Predator control
  • Duck marsh and wildlife pond maintenance
  • Note – we do NOT lease any hunting / fishing activities, and we do not have exotics

Maintenance of Property:

  • Inspect & maintain fences, roads, barns, pens & other facilities. Road creation
  • Heavy equipment operations & maintenance (tractors, excavator, skid steer, etc.)
  • Perform routine maintenance on farm equipment, ranch & owner vehicles
  • Assist in brush/vegetation management and prescribed burns
  • Weed eating and mowing around ranch facilities & roads

Employee Management / Other:

  • Provide daily leadership, supervision and direction to ranch employees
  • Maintain routine communications with owner and office staff
  • Source and oversee additional labor & equipment as needed for temporary projects
  • Develop relationships with neighboring landowners, area ranchers, local vendors and veterinarians on behalf of the ranch
  • Represent the ranch and its owners in the local community in a positive, professional and honest manner

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of ranching / property management
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Candidate should expect to undergo a basic background check and drug test
