Ranch Security Job Description– Coastal Northern California
Seeking a hands-on Security team member with integrity and a strong work ethic to help maintain the safety and security of a large private ranch with several hundred acres.
Security Duties & Responsibilities
The general duties are defined as, but not limited to:
Patrol & Perimeter Security includes:
- Patrolling the property on a regular schedule, using a mule/UTV or similar vehicle to cover ground efficiently
- Inspecting and maintaining fencing, gates, and access points; making basic repairs as needed
- Monitoring and logging visitors and unfamiliar vehicles or activity
- Securing the property against trespass
- Monitoring trail and terrain conditions across the property
- Maintaining general awareness of vulnerabilities across the property and reporting concerns promptly
- Providing informed recommendations for security or perimeter improvements
Communication:
- Providing regular, timely updates and reports to the Principal
- Communicating courteously and professionally in all correspondence
- Being available for on-site meetings as needed
- Accepting deliveries to the property
- Greeting guests upon arrival
Security, Safety & Compliance includes:
- Monitoring surveillance and access control systems as applicable; responding to alarm notifications and emergency requirements
- Immediately notifying the Principal of any emergency issues
- Assisting with emergency response procedures, including medical, weather, or security incidents
- Notifying the Principal of any unsafe or hazardous conditions and repairing or maintaining as required
- Assuring compliance with all safety protocols, including those for infectious disease prevention when required or requested
- Maintaining compliance with all OSHA and public/worker safety requirements
- Working directly with the Principal’s security consultants or vendors as required
- Promptly reporting any damaged, unsafe, or non-functioning assigned equipment to the Ranch Manager
Requirements
- 5 to 10 years previous experience in a security and land management, or similar role
- 3 positive references from previous jobs
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and experience safely operating vehicles and equipment with an acceptable motor vehicle operations record
- English language fluency, verbal and written
- Flexibility to be on-call, work nights, weekends and holidays as required
- Acceptable results of a pre-employment comprehensive background check and drug test
Qualifications
- Must have very good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Must be organized and have attention to detail
- Must have references that demonstrate commitment, reliability, discretion and productivity
- Background in land management, park service, or similar outdoor work, and security or law enforcement experience
- Comfortable working outdoors independently in all seasons
- Familiarity with basic surveillance and access control technology (cameras, gate systems, alarms)
- CPR/First Aid certification a plus
- Must be a team player with sound judgment and the ability to work independently
Physical Demands
Standing and walking for long periods, sometimes on uneven ground, and regular bending, sitting, kneeling, stooping and squatting are required. Must be able to safely operate assigned vehicles and equipment. Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be comfortable dealing with wildlife and domestic animals. Exposure to poison oak and other irritant plants may occur on the job. Protective safety equipment will be provided and must be used as needed.

This is a full-time, at-will and exempt position for someone willing to work outdoors in all conditions and who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-monitored property.
This position requires a self-starter who can work independently, communicate well, problem solve, and handle emergencies calmly.
This role reports directly to the Principal and will provide regular, timely updates about property security and related matters.
Must maintain strict confidentiality of all sensitive and private information. Confidentiality Agreement and Mutual Agreement to Arbitrate will be required.
