About the Role
Turner Ranches is seeking a Ranch Technician to support day-to-day operations at Vermejo Park Ranch, a 560,000-acre bison ranch spanning northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about sustainable ranching, livestock management, water systems, and land stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with bison handling, herd movement, and low-stress stockmanship practices
- Maintain and repair ranch infrastructure (fencing, water systems, corrals, windmills, solar units)
- Operate ATVs/UTVs, tractors, and other ranch equipment safely across rugged terrain
- Support feeding, monitoring, vaccination, and recordkeeping of bison herds
- Assist with grazing systems, temporary fencing, and mobile water setups
- Perform general ranch maintenance, construction, and field-based duties
- Support range monitoring, research projects, and natural resource initiatives
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain professional conduct at all times
Note: This is not a horseback, supervisory, or standard 9–5 position.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
- Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Must meet employment eligibility and driving record requirements
Preferred Experience:
- Livestock handling and low-stress animal management
- Heavy equipment, tractor, and ATV/UTV operation
- Agriculture, ranching, or natural resources background
- Mechanical, welding, or fabrication skills
Work Environment
- Heavy physical labor including lifting up to 100+ lbs
- Extensive outdoor work in extreme heat, cold, and rugged terrain
- Frequent ATV/UTV use and hands-on livestock handling
