Seasonal Ranch Hand wanted for a 900-acre single-family owned property on Wilson Mesa. We operate an agricultural operation that includes hay harvesting, cattle grazing, and forestry. There are also multiple buildings and houses and roads to be maintained. We are seeking a seasonal ranch hand to help with the myriad of tasks that are required to keep this property operational and in pristine condition. Work hours during the summer season will be 40-50 hours per week, paid hourly on a semi-monthly basis.

Wages will range from $30-$35 per hour for a single full-time employee with a full season commitment. We will require a prearranged time off agreement if more than two days are desired off in succession during the main work season, May 1st – October 31st. Work schedule will vary as weekends must be covered to monitor irrigation and cattle movements. Two days off will be given every week, this will rotate between weekdays and weekends and can be discussed with the Ranch Manager. Salary and benefits are possible for a long-term commitment (multiple seasons) and seasonal housing is available for the right candidate.

Responsibilities include:

Irrigation
– – Implement irrigation plan and record diversions
– – Prevent erosion
– – Observe water application outcome, report to manager

Vehicle Maintenance
– – Wash vehicles every Friday
– – Report to manager any mechanical issues with ranch vehicles
– – Assist in seasonal maintenance
– – Check oil level and tire pressure regularly

Landscape Maintenance
– – Maintain Flagstone and Rock work for outdoor spaces
– – Maintain grout joints on patios
– – Flush, clean, and maintain water feature at Main House
– – Check Hot Tub water quality and adjust when necessary

Facility Maintenance
– – Clean and replace tools after each use, report any broken tools
– – Clean and organize ‘Shop’ every Friday
– – Assist in removal of trash and recycling
– – Keep workbenches clean and clear and ready for use
– – Clean garage and driveway at Main House
– – Wash exterior window surfaces at Main House, Fishing Cabins, and Barns
– – General house maintenance, handyman projects

Hay Production
– – Assist with fertilizer application
– – Load and stack baled hay
– – Assist with hay deliveries

Forestry
– – Chainsaw work
– – Sharpen saw with each tank of fuel and oil
– – Pile forest litter for removal with grapple
– – Assist with Skid Steer grapple and mulcher work
– – Operate chipper

Fence Maintenance
– – Repair and maintain existing fencing
– – Install and remove temporary electric fencing
– – Provide ATV access to fence lines using approved forestry techniques

Road Maintenance
– – Rake and pick rocks from road after maintenance is done with equipment
– – Keep irrigation water off of all roads and repair erosion when it occurs

Construction projects
– – Assist Ranch Manager with construction projects as they arise

Land Maintenance
– – Clear rocks, harrow, apply seed, harrow, and spread hay to mulch re-vegetation areas

Trail installation and maintenance
– – Clear down trees and debris from approximately 4 miles of existing trails
– – Build new trails including finding routes, clearing trees, and building bridges
