Seasonal Ranch Hand and Landscaper – Wyoming Ranch (May–Oct 2026)
Location: Sweetgrass Ranch – Weston, Wyoming
Season: May 1 – October 31, 2026 (full-time, ~50 hrs/week)
Pay: $19–$22/hour DOE + housing and utilities included + end-of-season completion bonus
Sweetgrass Ranch is a 6,000-acre working ranch in the high plains of northeastern Wyoming. We’re a small, tight-knit team that takes pride in a well-run, beautiful property.
We’re seeking a reliable, hard-working Seasonal Ranch Hand and Landscaper. This role focuses on animal care, welfare, and infrastructure, maintaining outdoor spaces around our guest compound, owners’ home, and staff areas to keep the property neat, safe, and guest‑ready all season. You will report directly to the Ranch Managers.
This position is well-suited for a couple or team. Year-round employment is available for the right person or couple.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily animal feeding chores (hens, ducks, turkey, guinea, horses, cow/calf pairs, rabbits) and basic barn/pen tidying.
- Check ranch fences and gates regularly; perform minor repairs (tightening wire, replacing staples or clips, fixing loose panels).
- Landscape and maintain guest compound, owners’ house, and staff areas (mowing, trimming, mulching, planting, raking, debris cleanup).
- Perform basic property maintenance for the guest compound (changing light bulbs, minor repairs, checking HVAC systems and replacing filters, sweeping/hosing patios, decks, and walkways).
- Hand-pull weeds and care for vegetable gardens (weeding, watering, staking, light harvesting, compost/green waste handling).
- General grounds upkeep to keep roads, paths, yards, and common areas tidy and presentable at all times.
- Other related duties as assigned in the same general scope of landscaping, grounds, light maintenance, and animal chores. We are a small operation, so flexibility and a team-first attitude are a must.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience feeding and watering animals (horses, cattle, poultry, or similar livestock).
- Experience in landscaping, gardening, groundskeeping, or similar outdoor work (1+ years preferred).
- Physically able to do repetitive outdoor labor in variable weather (heat, wind, mud), including lifting 50 lbs and being on your feet most of the day.
- Reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (required). You must pass a driver’s license background check to operate ranch vehicles for errands and transportation around the property. Your personal vehicle is for your use only and will not be used for ranch business. We are a one-hour drive from the nearest town or store. You must be okay living in a remote environment that requires a two-hour round trip, including dirt roads, to get to town, and have a vehicle that can reliably make that trip.
- Able to take direction well, follow a daily task list, and ask questions when something isn’t clear.
- Ability to learn what needs to be done and take initiative to go beyond what is asked of you when appropriate or necessary.
- Commitment to following all ranch safety protocols when working with animals, equipment, and vehicles.
- Minimal phone use during work hours. Emergencies or job-related communication is always acceptable.
- Respectful and professional around guests and staff; able to follow ranch rules regarding safety, housing, and shared spaces.
- Available for the full season (May–October); on‑site housing and utilities included. Private bedroom in a 4-person bunkhouse; shared kitchen and bathroom.
- We are not able to provide work visas for international candidates. As such, if you are not already able to work legally in the U.S., you will not be considered.
Schedule & Time Off
- Full-time schedule averaging ~50 hours per week.
- One regular day off per week, with a second day off per week provided when the ranch schedule allows. We value time off and will work to allow you time off to explore.
Housing and Community Standards
- Private room in a 4-person bunkhouse with 2-3 other ranch hands. Fully supplied kitchen with laundry facilities. WiFi only (there is no cell phone service on the ranch).
- No family housing available.
- Heavy/binge drinking or drug use will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal. There is no smoking or vaping on the property.
Perks
- Work in a beautiful, remote Wyoming setting with time off to hike and explore the area.
- Housing, utilities, and WiFi included.
- End-of-season completion bonus.
- Preference for rehire next season.
- Ability to use ATVs during off time to explore the ranch.
- Learn new skills from animal care to heavy equipment operation. The ranch managers enjoy teaching people new skills.
- Year-round employment opportunity for the right person or couple.
