Family cow/calf operation in Great Falls, Montana seeking an honest and dependable seasonal (March–April or May) employee.
Skills needed and duties to include but not limited to:
- Experience recognizing the stages of calving and recognize when a cow needs assistance birthing a calf;
- Ability to assist a cow needing calving help (pulling a calf, getting the calf up and sucking, etc.);
- Ability to recognize and treat health needs of calves (respiratory illness, scours, weak calves, etc.);
- Ability to work livestock in a calm, low stress manner and be able to operate vehicles, farm equipment, and ATVs safely;
- Physical strength to tag, vaccinate, and band (castrate) new born calves. Heavy Lifting as would be expected for any ranch job;
- Night calving duties are shared and utilized when we calve heifers. Older cows are pasture calved;
- Cleaning pens and equipment to maintain a clean and healthy environment for cattle;
- All other ranch duties that need to be done on a cow/calf ranching operation (fence building and repair, trailing cattle, putting out salt/mineral, basic building and machine care, repair, maintenance);
- Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record;
- Smoking is not allowed in the buildings or in the equipment. This ranch is a drug-free operation;
- Housing and basic utilities including Internet are provided and can accommodate a single person or couple; Pets are not allowed in the house.
Competitive salary DOE. (Although we’re looking for a ranch hand with some experience, someone with more limited experience who is a thoughtful, conscientious, and a willing learner would be considered and welcome.)
