Ranch description:
Paicines Ranch is located near Paicines, CA. We have several growing livestock enterprises. Sheep (hair sheep) and cattle graze irrigated and rangeland pastures, while pigs and poultry spend most of their time on irrigated ground. We use livestock as a tool to improve our soil health and ecological resilience. Our land is certified organic and managed using Holistic Management. We raise our animals 100% on pasture and use antibiotics only therapeutically to treat active disease, which we minimize by maintaining a high level of nutrition and culling animals that do not perform well in our system. We sell our meats directly to consumers and through wholesale channels. For more information check out our website.

Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Proof of valid driver’s license
- Hours will average 45 hours per week, sometimes more
- ○ Must understand working with livestock often does not align with an 8am-5pm schedule, flexibility is a must, possible shift work if conditions require it
- ○ Two days off a week, but will not align with Saturday or Sunday
- ○ Looking for weekend coverage
- ○ Expected to work on holidays more often than not, other time off is set aside
- Be able to lift 50 lbs, regularly
- One year of livestock experience
- Be able to hike up and down steep and uneven slopes
Duties and Expectations:
- Work within a team setting, while also
- ○ Working independently on rangeland and irrigated pastures
- ○ Must be able to manage time and project goals without direct supervision
- Attend to the day-to-day needs of 1500 hd ewe flock
- ○ Has experience using low-stress livestock handling to herd on large and small landscapes
- ○ Has experience with permanent and temporary electric fencing and traditional permanent fencing
- ○ Has basic knowledge of plumbing and stock water setups
- ○ Has experience with basic veterinary care
- ○ Has experienced at least one lambing or kidding season
- ○ Likes dogs and can care for a pack of livestock guardian dogs
- Maintain assigned tools and equipment
- Maintain necessary records as directed by supervisor
- Can drive variety of vehicles and manual transmission
- Interest/experience in working stockdogs for herding small ruminants due to ranch topography
- Assist, willingly, in other livestock operations on occasions
- ○ Poultry, pigs, and cattle
- Basic mechanical maintenance and care of livestock program vehicles (4 wheelers, pickup, etc)
Compensation:
Wage: $17-20/hr DOE
Housing available: Private room with shared bath and kitchen, located in communal housing on ranch. Single occupancy- No couples or families
Full Time Benefits: After 90 day probationary period– Health insurance, 401k, FTO
Other benefits: With prior approval, ranch has a Herding Dog Policy and Horse Policy to aid in use of said animals for ranch duties
