Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Provide feed and water to the horses according to a specific schedule
- Tack horses up for riders
- Maintain a clean working environment by ensuring:
- – – All shelves/trunks/drawers are wiped down throughout day
- – – Aisles remain free of shavings/ clutter
- – – Horses are groomed to team standard
- – – Stalls are kept clean throughout day (shavings dry and free of feces)
- – – Water buckets are clean
- – – Laundry is done – including cleaning boots/wraps
- – – Tack is cleaned/wiped down daily
- Perform Horse Therapy responsibilities as instructed by managers and prescribed by the Vet, including:
- – – Massaging horses
- – – Stretching some horses
- – – Using therapeutic machines on horses
- Other Groom responsibilities:
- – – Pack hooves
- – – Turn out horses
- – – Hand walk and lunge the horses
- – – Bathe the horses
- – – Braid the horse’s manes
- – – Clip the horses
- – – Oversee horses in equine spa
- – – Setup and breakdown at shows
- – – Place and remove studs
- – – Ice legs (when horses don’t go into spa)
- – – Wrap legs of horses
- – – Blanket horses (night checks) as necessary
- – – Act as back up contact for horse care and emergencies
Qualifications/Requirements:
- At least 1-2 years of relevant experience is required.
- – – Show experience: FEI level/A Circuit Horseshows
- – – References will be required and checked
- Experience and knowledge of caring for equines
- Knowledge of safe work practices around horses
- Experience in monitoring animal appearance/behavior and communicating information to superiors
- Travel required for at least 22 weeks during the year, including potential for international travel
- Must be 18 years or older
- Clear background check and proof of authorization to work in the U.S.
- Strong communication skills
- Work effectively with minimal supervision; self-starter and self-motivated
- Physical requirements:
- – – Ability to work outdoors, on uneven, slippery terrain in varying weather conditions with dust and allergens
- – – Ability to twist, bend, kneel, climb and use hand tools as necessary
- – – Ability to lift 75 lbs.
