Pitchfork Ranch
(May, June, July, August)
The Pitchfork Ranch in Meeteetse, Wyoming, is offering a summer internship position for 2025. This position is flexible based on the applicant’s schedule for start and end dates, though we do ask for availability at least a week before the Pitchfork Horse Sale (May 30–June 1).
Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who’s comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team. The internship can be tailored to your individual learning goals and will include hands-on experience in:
- Cattle stewardship (rotational grazing, doctoring, branding, supplementation, and stockmanship)
- Irrigation and limited haying
- Fencing and ranch infrastructure maintenance
- Record keeping (inventories, financial statements, budgets, etc.)
This will be our fifth year offering finished beef directly to the public, so an ideal candidate will have an interest in the marketing side of ranch beef production. It’s also the fifth year of the Pitchfork Horse Sale.
While this is not a full-time cowboying position, applicants must be confident riders. Interns are welcome to bring a personal horse or a couple of outside horses to supplement income. In past years, we’ve also purchased a project horse for interns to train and sell at the end of summer—something we’re open to discussing again.
If you have a dog, feel free to bring them along — we’re flexible!
Interns will gain experience in all aspects of ranch operations, including work with the cowboy crew, and will come away with a well-rounded understanding of a working cattle ranch. Housing is provided in a furnished three-bedroom house, typically shared with one or two other interns.
We plan to hire one or two interns for summer 2025, but please note this position is highly competitive—we receive hundreds of applications each year. The best time for questions will be during the interview process. Pay is $16/hour for a 40-hour workweek.
TO APPLY:
Please email the following by December 1st:
- A resume
- A cover letter detailing why you’d be a good fit for this position
- Contact information for two professional references
⚠️ Include “Internship 2026 Submission” in the subject line.
Because riding ability is such an important part of the internship, we ask applicants to include a riding video if possible. It doesn’t need to be professional—we understand this can be tricky during the winter months.
Interns typically have weekends off, except during AI season and the Pitchfork Horse Sale. We’ll review applications and begin scheduling video interviews the first week of December.
