DH Land & Cattle
DH Land & Cattle comprises multiple properties in McMullen, Live Oak, and Atascosa Counties and is dedicated to developing and managing the habitat and land to produce superior whitetail deer and native species.
We are currently seeking a wildlife intern for the 2026 fall season. This position will include pay, a fully furnished 1bd/1ba private residence with all utilities and internet provided as well as a work vehicle for use on the ranches for work purposes. Meals will be provided by a chef during dates which hunters are present on the ranch. Dates of employment can be discussed upon moving forward in the process. The position is open for someone for the fall semester, preferably staying through the entirety of the 2026/27 whitetail deer season, roughly February of 2027. There is potential for this position to turn into a long-term full-time job for the right candidate.
This position will not be a normal 9-5 M-F job, it will require working most weekends and non-standard hours while hunters and/or family are on the ranch hunting. Holidays such as Thanksgiving/the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Christmas day and New Years are observed and the ranch staff including interns will have those days off unless an emergency arises.
The ideal candidate is someone recently graduated or currently pursuing a degree or career in wildlife management, or a related field, who is willing to take direction, adapt to changing circumstances, and work hard daily. The position will assist in daily functions of the ranches prior to and during hunting season. The position will answer to the Ranch Manager. The position will work alongside ranch staff, guides, and alone in many facets including but not limited to:
- Assisting with hunters, guests, and visitors of the ranch
- Scouting and patterning deer
- Skinning and cleaning deer
- Aging and scoring deer
- Habitat development (Brush work, spraying, shredding, and planting)
- Wildlife management feed program (Feeding protein and corn)
- Facilities upkeep and maintenance
- Waterline repair and installation
- Fence repair and building
- Predator and hog control
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to work outside in hot or cold and physically demanding conditions
- Ability to lift and carry 50lbs routinely
- Ability to work alone at the direction of others or as a team with ranch employees
- Ability to think on their feet and problem solve routinely
- Have a basic knowledge of farm and ranch equipment such as ATVs/UTVs, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, and other power tools.
- Have a basic knowledge of whitetail deer, preferably experience cleaning and skinning deer
- Willingness to ask questions when unsure and take constructive criticism and corrections
- No drug use or smoking
