UPDATE: our newly hired Wildlife Specialist filled an open role in our Organization. We are now searching for a backfill in the Wildlife Specialist position.
Job Objective
Assist meeting short- and long-term goals and objectives set by Ranch Management for the Wildlife and Natural Resources Department on a private 56,000-acre ranching enterprise.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist with water development: installation, maintenance, and monitoring
- Assist with hunting/ family/ guest relations
- Maintain an intensive supplemental feeding program for deer and exotic animals
- Develop and maintain food plots for deer and game birds
- Keep detailed computer records of game camera scouting
- Predator control of feral hogs and coyotes
- Clean up and beautification of ranch
- Application of herbicides to manage habitat, fencerows, and water traps
- Maintenance and upkeep of ranch equipment, vehicles, and facilities
- Heavy equipment operation and maintenance (tractors, skid steers, backhoe’s)
- Fence construction, repair, and maintenance
- Provide excellent customer service to family and guests
- Ability to keep a positive attitude and work nights & weekends when needed
- Wildlife Specialist must have the ability to work anytime from September – February, including weekends and Holidays.
- Assist with any and other ranch activities as assigned by ranch management
Qualifications
- Operation and maintenance of heavy equipment
- Operation and maintenance of a bobtail feed truck
- Ability to accurately solve problems
- Ability to work established work schedule
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public
- Ability to consider safety in all decisions
- Ability to create a hospitable environment
- Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities
- Ability to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position
- MUST be able to create a hospitable environment and keep a positive attitude
- Must develop and master understanding of ranch organizational responsibilities for each department
- Must adhere to all social media, privacy, and ranch policies
- Must be a team player and possess excellent communication skills
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, the ability to be an approved driver for the company and safely operate vehicles
- Must have the ability to traverse rough terrain and work independently in harsh conditions
Education Requirements
College degree preferred but not required; a minimum of 3 years’ experience working on a ranch may be substituted. Previous ranch and wildlife experience greatly preferred.
Salary
Competitive base salary, overtime potential during hunting season. Performance based bonus, 401K w/ match, great health benefits package.
