Moon River Ranch is a destination resort rooted in authenticity, hospitality, and a strong sense of place. The resort offers thoughtfully designed accommodations, a standalone restaurant, and banquet and private event experiences including weddings, retreats, and seasonal gatherings. Our goal is to provide warm, personalized service that reflects the character of the ranch while delivering a refined guest experience.
We are seeking a dependable and experienced Wrangler to join our new team. The wrangler team is responsible for the daily care, handling, conditioning, and safe management of horses. This role requires strong horsemanship skills, physical stamina, and a deep respect for animal welfare and safety protocols. This unique riding experience operates alongside a high fence exotic animal enclosure, and trail rides will often see wild animals such as bison, nilgai, oryx, zebras, ostriches, camels, and various species of deer.
Key Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and monitor the health and condition of horses daily
- Groom, tack, and prepare horses for riding, events, lessons, trail rides, wagon rides, or production work. This is a brand new operation, and exact scope will change as we find what works and doesn’t work
- Clean and maintain riding trails, paddocks, riding areas, and tack
- Identify signs of illness, injury, or behavioral concerns and report to management or veterinarian
- Match horses to riders, and ensure rider and horse safety during guided trail rides
- Assist ranch team with maintaining fencing, gates, and paddocks
- Keep accurate records of feeding schedules, horse usage, health care, and training notes
- Ability to identify exotic animals and talk about local geology, history, paleontology, and zoology
- Most importantly, do all of the above with a great attitude
Qualifications
- Proven experience handling and caring for horses in a guest ranch environment
- Strong knowledge of equine behavior, natural horsemanship, grooming, and Western tack
- Ability to ride confidently (Western preferred)
- Ability to mount and dismount horses of various sizes on the trail unassisted
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Flexibility with a new program, understanding there will be growing pains at times
- Basic first aid knowledge
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Skills
- Be guest focused, you are part of the Experience.
- Roping skills and ability to teach beginners on the ground
- Trailer driving and hauling experience
- Team driving experience preferred
- Basic veterinary abilities- Identifying common health issues such as colic, weight gain/loss, hoof issues, lameness, illnesses, wounds.
- Ability and desire to cross train with our activities team: guiding shoots, ATV/UTV tours, safaris, and evening activities
- Experience working on guest ranches or trail operations
