We’re looking for a wrangler to start in late May running through mid September. The wrangler will oversee all day-to-day management of our horses, and will lead all trail rides. A typical day starts early in the morning and involves catching and saddling horses for the day’s trail rides, taking guests out on the trail, and caring for horses, tack, and facilities. Responsibilities also include fence maintenance and repair, daily rotation of horses among pastures, acquiring and stacking hay, cutting and splitting firewood, construction and repair of hitching posts and corrals, barn maintenance, and occasional cooking and cleaning. Although the wrangler is out on the trail most days, the wrangler is expected to perform other hospitality-related functions such as assisting with orienting guests, providing assistance with events and evening functions, assisting the Head Cook at meal time, and tending bar. Whether the wrangler is on the trail, behind the bar, or helping at a cookout, socializing with guests is one of the most important things the wrangler does.

The wrangler must have experience in horsemanship and in instructing guests who are inexperienced riders. Providing lessons in horsemanship to inexperienced riders and kids will be a part of the wrangler’s responsibilities. The wrangler must be physically fit and be able to carry 65 pound hay bales after a long day in the saddle. CPR and first aid certification is necessary. The ability to safely pull a loaded horse trailer is necessary. Operation of machinery including farm tractors, skid steers, and excavators is a plus. Cooking and bar tending experience is a plus. Proficiency with bear spray and firearms is a plus. In addition to providing a safe riding experience, the wrangler must be friendly, outgoing, and must be clean and western in appearance. Room and all utilities, a weekly food allowance, along with tips and salary commensurate with experience, will be provided. No pets please.
